What can I expect when discontinuing PPI?

I'm currently on Pantoprazole (PPI) 20mg and Pepcid (H2) 40mg.

I will be seeing my GI doctor on Monday (3/12/18). We have been tapering my dose of Pantoprazole for about a year. I have a feeling that he is going to stop the Pantoprazole (or do alternate days), which will mostly just leave me with taking the Pepcid every night.

I would like to ask, What should I expect when going completely off the Pantoprazole/PPI?

So, I saw my GI doctor today. We decided to take the Pantoprazole one day and skip it the next (back and forth).

What I'd like to learn more about is, What should I be watchful for on the days I skip taking the Pantoprazole?

Did your doctor tell you what to expect? Honestly if you have been tapering off of Protonix for a year, you might not experience any side effects.

The GI doc didn't tell me what to expect.

Yea, so I went from 40mg twice a day, went down to 40mg once daily, then alternated between 40mg and 20mg each day. Then, I went down to 20mg every day.

Now I'm alternating between taking the medication and not.

I do anticipate the "acid rebound" that I've had before but I know that will resolve over time.

If anyone has any further information, please let me know.

I quit Protonix cold turkey (not advisable), and I had zero acid rebound after being on it for many years.
