Make sure you are familiar with what the recovery with NF involves, as it is major abdominal surgery. I always tell people that this surgery should be a last resort. Will you be able to eat pizza and drink wine post-surgery? Sure - When will that be? It's different with everyone. There may still be foods that bother you, and you can still get heartburn when you overindulge. Some people still need to take PPIs post-surgery, either temporarily or sometimes permanently. Make sure that you have all the proper testing, including the endoscopy, barium swallow, 24-hour pH testing and most importantly the manometry to make sure that you have good swallowing function. If your swallowing function is compromised, you would need a floppy (loose) wrap, and in some cases you won't be eligible for the surgery at all. I only started to feel better 6-months post-surgery and my "new" me at 1 year, but everyone's recovery is different. If you do have the surgery, make sure you always keep on hand an anti-nausea medication, as you will probably experience waves of nausea for no reason. I still keep it on me, and ocassionally need it, 4 years later. You will also more than likely loose the ability to belch, as you do now and lose the ability to vomit. These are also things you need to consider.
