So I finally got a gastroscopy done last Tuesday after being on PPIs on/off for about 5 years. Main symptoms being heartburn, occasionally (more so in the beginning) regurgitation and irritated throat. I had to stop PPI's for two weeks prior to operation where I did surprisingly well. I managed it with Zantac, baking soda, tums and gasviscon as needed.
First of all the procedure was super simple and quick. I was sedated so don't remember a thing. My GI came out afterwards and told me both my stomach and esophagus were normal but they took biopsies to be sure and it was up to me if I wanted a motility test to look further into the issue. I declined at the moment as I have been through a lot of testing lately and wanted to try some things on my own first.
Since the scope I have been off of both Zantac and PPI's. I take the occasional tums, gavsicon and baking soda/water. Overall though my heartburn has been better then it has been in years. I also feel a lot better and have a ton of energy. I think the stress of not knowing contributed to elevating my symptoms so just getting the scope done brought a ton of relief. Well here's hoping this is in the past and that I don't need to go on PPIs again!
