Hi,
My story is a bit long and I am trying to put it together bit by bit. English is not my first language so please bare with me.
Around 8/3 I vomited due to dizziness. I gagged and saw small strike of bloods from my throat but no bloods found in the vomited foods. Two days passed by and I had no symptoms. On 8/6 I had my first reflux while driving to work (that same night I was normal if I recall correctly). I was panic and made an appointment with the GP the next day. He put me on pantoprazole 40 mg plus Zantag 150 mg before breakfast and 150 mg before dinner. I now believe that it was a mistake taking ppi when I experienced the first reflux. I should have waited to allow my body to heal. The dosage was quite a bit strong. Also, what the GP should have done was sending me to have tests done before handing out that terrible medication.
+ Prior to taking ppi medication I was put on a 30-day cipro treatment for prostatitis by the same GP. I took cipro 250 mg, 2 times day with 1 ibuprofen accompanied with each cipro. The prostatitis diagnose was proven wrong after the cipro treatment failed to relief the frequent urination. I have BPH. I read that ibuprofen can relax the LES muscle? I took around 60 ibuprofen in that 30-day period. The prostate treatment ended a week before I experienced the reflux!
+ On 8/7 I took pantoprazole. I experienced a lot of gassing, burping and indigestion.
+ On 8/14 I decided to stop taking ppi without knowing the rebound symptoms. I suffered extreme heartburn at night for one week.
+ I went back to pantoprazole again on 8/21 and had an endoscopy on 8/27. Nothing was found wrong even the hypopharyxn, except for dysphagia. Biopsy taken from the stomach for H. pylori was also negative.
+ Went to another GI on 8/31 and was subscribed with omeprazole 20 mg + ranitidine 300 mg before bed for 1 month to heal the UES. The ranitidine helped lessen the nocturnal heartburn. I believe he is trying to wean me down?
+ I stayed on omeprazole + ranitidine for around a week and decided to wean off based on findings in forums instead of waiting for the UES to heal. I could swallow foods.
+ I started weaning off on 9/14. During the first two days of weaning I did not take anything in the morning except supplements bought from Amazon such as mastic gum, DLG, B12, D3+K2 and Magnesium Citrate. I took ranitidine 300 mg, active charcoal, finasteride (hormone reducing pill to shrink the prostate down) before bed.
+ I currently am on the 3rd day of weaning. After taking fluids first thing in the morning I could feel the fume coming up from the stomach, irritating the throat. After I ate the soup everything returned to normal.
+ My meals are consisted of really soft vegetable soup with shredded breast-less chicken and salmon, 3X per day with the last meal taken before 5 PM. I drink as much as alkaline water as I could per day.
+ During the first 2 days of weaning off period I felt the foods being digested a little bit faster than when I was on ppi. Only toward the last meal of the day I felt indigestion. I felt no reflux, only occasional burpings and belchings after meal. I took digestive enzymes at each meal.
My concerns are the fume racing toward my throat and indigestion at the last meal. Also, should my stomach produce a lot more acid by now due to the rebound effect? How long does the weaning process take? I'm on paid sick leave and probably will be off work for awhile until I correct this acid reflux and the prostate problems. I lost 30 lbs since taking the ppi. The frequent urination prevents me from traveling to work. I developed extreme health anxiety disorder from these two conditions and it made my life a living hell. Please advise.
