I had tif done (6/2015 in Chicago area) and I'm extremely worse. Started about 13 days after surgery and continued to get worse day by day. Throat now burns. Every morning I awake and continues throughout the day. Asthma worse by far. I had it for about a year and had a doctor in Wis. undo it. The doctor in Wis did about 600 or more TIF's. It was'nt him who did the initial Tif. Now I have severe gastroparesis aswell as the new symptoms. Everymornig I have a sore throat that lasts all day long. I now have no life. I was by far better off before TIF. I thought undoing it would bring me back to how I was. I was wrong. Don't do it. If you ask leave me your email and I will send/show you my test results before and after TIF. I even call EndoGastricSolutions and they said no one ever got worse and that after TIF it shows you have an underlying problem. See others that have the same problem on this site like thesixness. His situation is like mine. IF ONLY I COULD BE THE WAY I WAS BEFOE TIF.

What did your Wisconsin doctor think about the TIF procedure?

My tif 8 weeks ago the problem is my neck when i bend down i have acid reflux. Do you know who takes the stiches off? I will try the Ninsen WHAT DO YOU THINK

Fegyduck. I now have gastroparesis after they took the stitches out. Means my stomach is paralyzed.
I was better off not doing it. Make sure whoever you find that they tell you about the VAGUS nerve. TIF made me worse and I thought undoing it would bring me back to how I was. I was wrong. I have all the new symptoms that TIF gave me and now the symptoms of gastroparesis. it's been 3 years now and I'm only 40 with 2 sons 18 and 15. I tell myself at night I don't have to wake up. There is no cure for gastroparesis. Doctor told me the nerves may take up to a year to heal. it's been 3. Even with Nissen Fundo they remove the stitches if they can before they do the wrap which will cut your nerve. Don't let them fool you to think it's safe.

Who did yours by the way and where.
Mine was Ujiki at northshore/Chiago
The Doctor that did the reversal was Janu Calumet Hosp/Chilton WI ( Janu did about 1000 TIF before I saw him) Neither one of them told me about the VAGUS nerve.

I am also much worse since the TIF. It did not cure original problem, which they said was silent reflux (LPR). I still have original foaming burning bubbles but now I also cannot burp, probably couldn’t throw up if I needed to, can hardly eat, lots of pain behind breast bone, bad diarrhea. Now too skinny.

A few days ago I saw the doc who did the hernia repair part and he suggested that he might be able to undo it for me. He wants me to have a barium swallow first. I had a follow up endoscopy a few weeks ago and the gi doc who did the TIF said everything was perfect and I’m “fine”. Which just tells me he didn’t hear anything I have told him this last 5 months.

Worst thing I have ever done to myself. I am hoping the hernia surgeon will tell me that yes, he can undo it.

Well, well. I had the barium swallow this morning and found out that my wrap is way too tight. The barium just sat there. I knew something was not right and it is nice to know what is actually going on. I see my surgeon next Wednesday and am hoping he will either undo it completely or be able to loosen it enough for me to be normal again.

So glad to hear this good news Kay....Im 17 days in after having the Linx and hiatal hernia repair and suffering badly....I posted my experience to date in other topics under Linx and Hernia procedures....keep us posted of the outcome as lots of us read all the topics under GERD smile

Kay Tee, I hope you get a chance to read this before you have it undone. I thought I would go back to how I was but I didn't. I got worse. My vagus nerve was damaged even more and I have gastroparesis (paralyzed stomach). Be firm and ask surgeon about what can happen and if he does't mention the vagus nerve and the permanent complications I wouldn't trust him. Check out videos of people that posted their struggles with gastroparesis. I got worse after TIF but it wasn't as bad now after take down. I was not told about these complications, just told it was a 50/50 chance TIF might not work. Had mine done in the Chicago area.

I am still considering the undo. If I continue losing weight, I don’t see much choice. I keep having bad reactions to the meds they try. The most recent was Baclofen. It actually helped, but it also made me feel like I weighed 500 pounds and I had a hard time breathing. My husband had to walk me up and down the street like I was trying to get off a bad binge drunk. Three days later, I still feel some effects from it.

My surgeon has been very honest with me about chances I could get worse. Taking a wait and see for now. The second dilation did provide a bit of relief. I see my gp in a few weeks, want to see what he thinks.

sixness, I've been trying to find you. Who did your TIF. Mine was undone by Peter Janu in Chilton,WI. I know you 're from there. I wanted to know how things are going. I see that things are the same for you too. I did'nt have a nissen. Just wondering if the take down of TIF caused your vagus nerve damage. It did to me. Wondering if we could do something about this. I called the company that sells TIF and they said they never heard of anyone getting worse after TIF and that I had my issues before hand. They say you can have it redone. How is that possible with out messing up the nerves even more. You had yours a few years before me. My email is scorpiossnake@yahoo

Hey Scorpio, I can't recall the exact surgeon that did my tif, but he worked with Dr. JANU at St. Elizabeth's hospital in Appleton WI. His first name was Ken. I actually never had mine undone, I was able to actually have a Nissan over the top of the tif. My surgeon repaired some of the mesh from the tif but she said it was any more difficult. It would be nice to be able to do something about this. I've been to Dr Kaufman in New York and Mayo Clinic. Seems like the only solution is low doses of tricyclic antidepressants or gabapentin for the nerve pain.

Hello Please look into Esopageal Valvuloplasty. I was like you and had 2 failed nissen. Dr Farid Gharagozloo saved my life. He removed all my scar tissue, released the vagus nerve from entrapment and put everything back the way it was. I got a 2nd chance in life. We also have a Facebook group for more information called Nissen Alternative Esphogeal Valvuloplasty
