New Member Intro

Hi everyone. I've been lurking on this forum for a while. I am scheduled for repair of large hernia with toupet fundoplication on Oct. 30. I'm looking forward to the support I have seen within the community here. I'm nervous - more so than I thought I would be. How soon did you go back to work after this surgery?

Thanks Yamaha. I am a middle school science teacher and my plan is to take off until after Thanksgiving break and I was wondering if I was being overly dramatic about what recovery would be like. I'm also confused about whether I'll be overnight in the hospital or not. I've seen conflicting information.

Volcanomom, call your surgeon's office about whether it's an overnight stay or not. They can tell you this information. In the meantime, try to be careful with what you read in a lot of open forums. More stress is not what you need or want, lol. Something I learned a long time ago, often people that participates in open forums are the folks that did not get the result from surgery that they expected. Therefore, we tend to get a lot of negative feedback. Don't let this discourage you. I feel like the ones that are doing well are out living their life & not hanging out in a forum.

Ask all the questions you want here, but above all ask your dr. A well informed patient is a must. Keep an eye out for SharonZ, she gives great input here.

Thanks everyone! Susie - I did call my surgeon's medical assistant about whether it would be overnight or not. She said it might be depending on how I did, but that most of his patients go home the same day. Jesslg - I'm really looking forward to having the problem dealt with. Maybe I can drink orange juice again!! My main stress right now is trying to get everything ready for my sub. My kids don't understand, even though they are middle school - they're like, if they are only making 5 little cuts why will you be out so long LOL. I said - it's not the cuts, it's what they are doing inside.
