LPR reflux and voice

Ive recently been diagnosed with LPR reflux and i am having problems with my voice. Once you get the reflux under control does your voice come back? Its horrible not being able to talk.

You are not alone. I suffered for many years with periodic episodes where I would totally lose my voice due to LPR reflux. My voice would come back, but then I would lose it again. You have to treat the LPR reflux aggressively. I found that the UK version of Gaviscon, which contains alginate as a primary ingredient, was especially helpful. But this was just one of many treatments I used concurrently. Anyway, I wish you the best of luck.

If your hoarseness is caused by LPR/reflux, it will respond positively to Nissen surgery. I remember my surgeon commenting on how much better my voice sounded after my surgery.

Sorry for taking so long to respond to your post. When I first started losing my voice, I would be able to talk for the beginning of the day up until about 4:00 p.m. Then, to rest my voice, I would have to remain absolutely silent until the beginning of the next day. This, of course, made life very difficult and it was a miracle I was able to keep working. Later, it became worse and I would have to remain silent over the weekend. Again, you have to treat the LPR aggressively. If you consider surgery, be sure to research it carefully and find out all the possible side effects and problems. There are also new alternatives to the traditional Nissen surgery. Be sure to check those out. Best of luck.
