I'm supposed to have one tomorrow after a Gastric Emptying Scan. Worrying myself too much by reading posts about
people getting sick, constipated for days, etc. from the barium.
Is it worthwhile? Will I be OK? Nervous. Nervous about
all these tests, except GES which seems pretty easy.
Thanks for advice!

It's not tasty, but it's not that bad at all. You don't have to drink it all at once, that makes it easier. I didn't get constipated or sick, just eat vegetables and whole grain meals, and drink fresh juice.

This goes back to not relying on the internet so much - there is a lot of misinformation out there. You will be fine, it's necessary for a diagnosis. Just make sure that you drink a lot of water following the test.

Has anyone gotten a specific diagnosis based on the Barium swallow?

I've only had it done in conjunction with other testing.

Yes, I am having other testing as well.
Did it show anything? Or, what tests allowed your docs to make a diagnosis?

Endoscopy, Barium Swallow, 24-hr pH testing, Manometry. They are all used for different reasons. My testing confirmed GERD and hiatal hernia.
