Achalasia, anyone?

My doc thinks I have achalasia based on barium swallow/history of autoimmune disease. Manometry upcoming to confirm diagnosis. She said this condition is actually the best case scenario, because otherwise, there would not be much they can do for me (apparently, I have the swallow function of a 90 year old at 49!). Can anyone tell me what to expect from the surgery/recovery? I have had spasms....are these improved with the Heller Myotomy?

I've had esophagitis and some other GERD symptoms, so I think they will do the reflux surgery with the Heller. Thanks for your reply, Sharon. Yes, hoping that someone has some experience in this area and can share.
