Toupet fundoplication

Because of your swallowing dysfunction, the Toupet (floppy) is probably your best option. There a lot of people on the Forum that have had success with the Toupet (you could search the Forums). Why not seek a 2nd surgical opinion to ease your mind?

On my way to surgery for a takedown of 1st nissen. The first one was a success for about 5 years. Then I began to get anything liquid or solid stuck half way down the esophagus. How has the result of a redo been for those that have had them. Also throw in the mix paralysed intestine and cronic diarrhea and constipation before the first nissen and since. When I get tired of it I use Benefiber 1/2 teaspoon sprinkled on any food or in a drink. Takes about 3 days and then I am at least soft solid. If anyone has any ideas of how to begin my diet afterward better than last time it would be helpful.

New Toupet Recipient (Chronic Cough)

My story is a bit different in that my extreme reflux was the underlying reason for a severe case of cough syncope. I had this awful condition for nearly three years and at the peak I was passing out (syncope) 4-5 times a week. I wrecked my car, passed out in business meetings, at dinner and almost anytime I had a coughing bout. I did not travel on a plane for over a year. It was unbelievable and impacted my life in so many ways.

Fast forward I was diagnosed with TracheaBrocialMalacia (TBM) and had surgery to rebuild my collapsed trachea. While it stopped the syncope episodes the cough continued. That’s when Mayo started to focus on GERD caused by severe reflux. I had a 48 hour PH test and had 90 demeaster score. 😳 whoa!!!

The final Mayo recommendation was to have surgery to eliminate the reflux. Had the Toupet procedure on November 4th and so far so good. Had a few samples of TGiving food yesterday without any issues. The biggest adjustment is eating slower and chewing my food a lot more. My doctor kept me on Omeprazole (40MG) for the first month post surgery but I suspect that will change when I see him for my follow up on December 2nd. All in all it’s been a very good outcome so far. It’s been one hell of a 2019 and I’m looking forward to a full recovery!

Hey there, I had a 270 wrap just shy of 2 years ago and it has been great. The recovery was slow (took a year or a bit longer), but really glad I had it done. I eat basically what I want (still avoid anything too spicy) and even can enjoy a beer or two. I am also able to play basketball, run, hike and otherwise exercise without trouble. I do still have symptoms from time to time, but nothing like before. For example I am currently having some very minor heartburn and throat clearing. It has been about 3-4 days now on and off, but this happens sometimes. It may last 5-7 days off and on, but then usually I am fine for weeks/months. Just know that the recovery is probably going to be longer than the internet and some doctors might tell you. Also, the recovery can be darn frustrating at times, but once you get there life is so much better than pre-surgery. Good luck and if there is anything else I can tell you, let me know.
