Hi there,
I’m new to this site also but have suffered with diagnosed LPR for about 5 years now. I was diagnosed with a hiatal hernia from a scope and have attempted to manage the symptoms by diet and supplements primarily. Mine comes and goes for some reason. I almost feel like I go into a remission and then bam, I feel it starting up again. I get the lump in my throat, a sore/burning tongue (especially down the sides) with a feeling like there is something rubbing on the top of my tongue and my tongue develops a scalloped shape along the edges. I also have white, frothy saliva when it flares and this most recent (current episode) has also resulted in a lymph node appearing along my hairline about an inch behind my ear. This started up for me about 3 weeks ago and I have been trying hard to get it under control, but struggling this time for some reason. My most recent scope was done this past October (7 months ago now). I take 60MG Dexilant every day, and I also take a supplement called GI-Soothe from cyto-genics. It’s a blend of licorice root, slippery elm and marshmallow extract. I open the capsule and pour it into a mug, mix with hot water and drink like tea ... 4 times a day. I also drink alkaline water to neutralize any pepsin, but it doesn’t seem to be helping me much. The doctor has just prescribed me a 2 week dose of Losec (20mg) to take with my Dexilant thinking that the 2 together might help me.
Have your scope and see what is found. It’s not a pleasant condition and it’s chronic and can be challenging to manage, but it is at least more recognized now. I started having symptoms about 11 years ago and it took me about 6 years to find someone who would actually recognize my symptoms and diagnose me. Initially I was told I probably had HIV and I was tested for that. I was a 38 year old at that time and had only been with my (then) husband from the time I was 18. Not having my symptoms recognized and supported at times made me feel like it all must be in my head. I was tested for everything, but as my bloodwork was usually good - it was a mystery to my doctor. If you have found a dr that will work with you and help support the new you; you are half way there! Just stay positive, take it one day at a time and try not to stress about it. Stress will only make it worse ! I am 49 now, healthy and relatively active. This is my first chronic condition as well! Good luck with your scope and keep us posted how it goes!
