Hello everyone,
I am quite concerned, I am being evaluated for a Nissen fundoplication because of severe reflux, and I am concerned about the 24 hr PH test results I had last week that came out with a very high score, of 278, the endoscopy showed erosive duodenitis, but mild esophagitis, my symptoms are of, nausea, vomiting, frequent loose bowel movements, and reflux.

I checked online, and the findings do not necessarily match the recommendation for a Nissen fundoplication.
From what I have researched, there are many horror stories, I would like some advice, not to make a mistake.
A friend has Chrone's disease and told me the duodenitis is a sign of Chrones disease and is far from the valve.
I would appreciate input to make the right decision because I am confused and concerned.

We are not medical professionals on this Forum, but please stop trying to self-diagnose using Dr. Google. There is a lot of misinformation out there. Second, surgery should always be your last resort. Have you tried medication, following a GERD-friendly diet, and keeping a food diary to try and pinpoint your potential trigger foods? Before consenting to any surgery, always seeks a second opinion.

Thank you, Sharon, I am not Dr, Google, I just could not help going online with a result that is 20 times higher than normal this is not the second operation it would be the first.

I have an appointment for a second opinion in a couple of days.
I got very concerned when I got the results and saw the test results, where the score is 20 times higher than the threshold, yes I have tried all meds and combinations, I get relief for acid reflux, I have not gotten relief for the stomach cramping, diarrhea, and vomiting,
I have had these for a year and it has gotten worse.

I am getting a second and third opinion, it is not easy now due to the COVID backlog
I hope my best option is not surgery.

Hi everyone,

Can anyone please give me some hints of questions to ask the GI, given my symptoms of vomiting and erosive duodenitis please?

It always helps to write things down before you go to any doctor. My suggestion would be to just give him your symptoms and express your concerns.

Thank you, Sharon, this is exactly what I did, as a result, I was told this was impossible, he never heard of such a score, so it must be faulty, especially since there is only mild esophagitis, as far as the severe duodenitis, there could be many causes for this, so he is scheduling an endoscopy, and start from there, and try to see what is causing these symptoms of abdominal pain, frequent diarrhea, bloating and vomiting and reflux.
I asked about Chrone's disease that my friend suggested, and was told this is high in the list of posibilities, so a couple of tests were ordered, I will go from there, and keep you all posted, still quite miserable, but I was glad I had this appointment, and it will thoroughly be looked at.

David, Healing Well is a public forum, anyone can click on a post & read, in your case 94 people has read your post. Only members can make a post here. We have a huge viewing audience, not everyone wants to become a member & post in a public forum. I hope this answers your question about views. At the bottom of the main page you will seeing several hundred guests online &sometimes 2-3 members.

Good luck with your tests, it sounds like your dr is listening to you, be patient.
