Hi everyone, I am new here! I hope I can get some guidance from you.
Dec 10th I had an endoscopy to see the reason of the pain I was having in my stomach. I was fully sedated and I didn’t know that the dr was going to take some biopsies. When I woke up from the anesthesia immediately I started feeling some pain and burning. When the dr came to see me I told her and she said that it will go away. Has been now 11 days and the pain is not minimizing at all. I feel like open sores in every area the dr took a biopsy (7 in total). I have gone to see her and she told me to take the antibiotics for h pylori since they found that in my stomach and sent me to have an ultrasound and all came back clear. I have done endoscopies before and never had felt pain after the procedure. I don’t know what else to do. My esophagus and my stomach are in so much pain. Like I said feels like open sores. I don’t have fever and I am not vomiting. Could it be an infection? Has anyone felt something similar? How long did you suffer and what helped to heal? Thank you so much for your replies!

Sorry that you are experiencing such discomfort. I've had numerous endoscopies, with and without biopsies, and have had the h. Pylori infection. The h. Pylori infection can be painful, but mine doesn't sound anything near what you are experiencing. I would probably get a 2nd opinion from another gastro doctor. Have you tried anything like gaviscon liquid?

Thank you so much Sharon. I haven't tried Gaviscon. Just taking antibiotics, Nexium, Probiotics and Buscopan. I am planning to go to the ER and ask have them do an MRI or CT-Scan just to make sure that there is nothing wrong.

SaCB, what else did the doctor find in addition to h pylori? In my case long time ago when I had h pylori it caused an ulcer and gastritis. Both would cause a lot of harsh pain, burning, pain like sores. I have erosive gastritis right now and the pain is horrific like sores. It got worse while I was on ppi, I guess my diet was not strict enough. Strict diet in combination with drugs should help. It takes long time to heal. Rest is important also.

Hi Gloria thank you for reaching out. The Dr diagnosed me with a chronic active superficial gastritis. No metaplasia or atrophy. After talking to another GI he said that it is not usual to have so much pain after an endoscopy and probably doing that (the endoscopy with biopsy) might have triggered something else. Unfortunately he can only see me in January.

SaCB, while waiting for Dr app. you can try to eat just soft foods with high pH. Avoid cereal, crackers, toast, raw veg/fruits, anything that is 'rough' Also search f alkine foods. I personally go crazy with finding right food to eat in order to heal. I searched this forum and found a lot of good input. I have been having oatmeal for breakfast for the past 2 years as I always heard oatmeal is very good and smoothing. I found out from this forum that oatmeal "is insoluble fiber that clumps together and keeps the stomach churning, trying to digest them because it senses big particles of food. It doesn't realize it can't digest them. " Also I used to eat white rice. It was my #1 to go while having GI issues. I read on this forum that rice is too 'rough' on the stomach that is trying to heal. I hope you feel better soon.

GloriaD, thank you so much for the suggestions. So what do you then eat (breakfast, lunch and dinner)? Most mornings I also have been eating oatmeal with blueberries and chia seeds. For lunch what I eat is boiled sweet potatoes either with salmon or with chicken. Most of the times for dinner I have vegetable soup.

SaCB, breakfast- cream of wheat or cream if rice. Lunch and dinner - I make a vegetable soup and blend all vegetables after they are overcooked. I eat it as my dish or mix it with soup liquid and eat it as soup. I only use vegatables that are GERD friendly and are ok with FODMAP diet which are parsnip, carrots, spinach, collard greens, chard, kale is ok but I don't like it, potatoes, eggplant. Sometimes I will have eggs. Somebody on this forum was eating just egg custard while trying to heal gastritis. Baked fish is ok. I think salmon is too fatty. I noticed having more pain after salmon. I bake chicken, chop it in the food processor and mix it in vegetable soup. I am on carafate and occasionally take tums if the pain gets intolerable. I will give a couple of more weeks for carafate to do its job and will switch to ppi as I don't think the carafate is helping. I am pretty much in constant pain which goes up and down. I don't use salt or any seasoning. My case is really bad. It has been 2 years with no healing since I didn't aggressively treated it. from start. You might not have to be on the very strict diet. Btw, blueberries are acidic. I used to eat them and a lot when I was diagnosed. I also used to eat chai seeds, hemp seeds, nuts, all good stuff I thought. But turned out it is all bad for gastritis.

GloriaD, thank you so much for your thorough explanation of what your regimen is. Did you loose a lot of weight?
I also noticed that when I was taking carafate I still felt the same. It didn’t help me much but maybe also because I was trying to treat the stomach lining and not killing the bacteria.
I WISH YOU AND YOUR FAMILY A MERRY CHRISTMAS.

Hi SaCB. As GloriaD mentioned, blueberries are acidic. Here is the oatmeal recipe I have been using for a few weeks now on a low-acid diet. I eat it every morning. It tastes rather bland but is filling.
- 1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk
- 5 Tbsp (2 1/2 ounces) old fashioned oats
- 1/2 ripe banana, sliced or chopped *
- 1 Tbsp organic coconut flakes (optional)
In a non-stick pan, heat the almond milk over medium heat. Add the oats and stir constantly until thick and creamy. Remove from the heat. Add the banana and coconut. Mix well and serve.
* Try for bananas on the ripe side. Unripe bananas have a pH of about 6.5, whereas fully ripe bananas have a pH of about 8.0.

SaCB, Merry Christmas to you also. I lost 5lb in 1 month. Yes, I keep losing weight since I eat little and low calories foods. I think Carafate suspension finally started to help after over 2 weeks of taking it. I almost quit. I was constipated from it, everything burned especially my throat after taking it, I had nausea. Side effects faded out. I feel better now but still far away from 'normal'. Also, I am on vacation now and was able to rest a lot. I think rest goes side by side with recovery process. Medication will not help on its own. We don't have a miracle drug. Diet and rest are very important.

Thank you for sharing your oatmeal recipe. It is pretty much what I also have been doing but unfortunately I have to cut the bananas as it is too sweet and h pylori thrives sweet things (according to my functional Dr).

Most of the times I have pain right in the middle, like just below the xiphoid. The pain sometimes radiates to both sides of the ribs, but most of the times to my left side. It also attacks my left quadrant and also my shoulder blade. Now I am dealing with a new pain after my endoscopy. I feel like little open sores especially on my abdomen. The dr said that it has nothing to do with the endoscopy as it was done in the stomach and not the blader. So he thinks that might have triggered something in my body. But it is just very weird.
I also have noticed that when it is close to my period the pain intensifies. Also, I have felt like my stomach is too full for me to eat anything and other times no matter how much I eat the stomach still feels empty and I have gnawing pain.
