I did not have a Hiatal Hernia, but I had a 360 Fundoplication. My surgeon sutured the hiatus anyway. Hernia or not, he said it’s better practice to close the Hiatus in order to hinder any possible hernia in the future. In my opinion if you are having continual issues with reflux even with diet restrictions and medicines, the next logical steps would be endoscopy, Manometry, and Bravo PH test. Find a good bariatric surgeon and get things fixed. Nissen Fundoplication surgery does help a high percentage of people, especially those suffering with a hernia. The recovery is challenging, but better than the alternatives.
Blessings,
