I have a terrible stomach pain all day long. I have stomach erosions that wouldn't heal. I was prescribed PPIs, H2 blocker with no success. I was switched to Sucralfate suspension. How long does it take to feel any relief from pain? I am taking it 4 times a day. I have been on strict GERD diet.

Some people notice relief right away, others it can take weeks to work. With me, it didn't work at all. Make sure that you are taking it on an empty stomach, 1 hour before your meals.

Sharon, thank you for your reply. Sucralfate is my last hope since other medication didn't help. There are no more choices left. It has been a week since I started with no relief yet. I am taking 1 hour before meals. Funny or sad part is one GI said to take 1 hr before or 2 hrs after meals. Another GI mentioned not to listen to others and take it 20 mins before meal. Also I asked the pharmacist who said it has to be at least 30 mins before meal.
Can you share which medication helped you?

Protonix gave me the most relief over the years. I suffered with GERD for most of my adult life, and I eventually had Nissen surgery in my mid 50's.

While awaiting endoscopy and colonoscopy the GI put me on sucralfate when i called saying my voice was cracking and throat sore. I felt like crap on it and an upset stomach. Not taking it now.

Many medical sites say “Sucralfate should not be taken for longer than 8 weeks at a time.” Has anybody taken for more than 8 weeks and for how long at a time?

My doctor said I can take it 20 mins before food which was wrong. This is why I am asking others here per other GIs.

I was responding to your question about whether you could take it longer than 8 weeks. As I told you before, it didn't work for me, but I've heard it prescribed all the different ways that you have mentioned. It doesn't mean that your doctor is wrong, and I would take it the way that it was prescribed for me.
