Hi all.
I had an NF in 2010 and a revision in Sept 2012 and in last 12 months have started to get more episodes of reflux and acid. I had an NF following testing that showed acid reflux caused by my esophagus not closing and I was frequently bringing up contents of stomach particularly when lying down or bending over. I am now finding its back in terms of when I lie down or bend over I get reflux into my mouth and often I know it happens unconsciously as I feel that thick coating in the throat.

Question - has anyone else had this as I don5 recall anything happening that would tear the NF? Or is it just relaxed now, just looking to see if anyone else has got experience of this?

It does happen, I suggest you go back to your surgeon and get his opinion - he may want to do some testing to see if the wrap has been compromised.

Hi Sharon, I live in the uk so it’s onto a waiting list that I expect will be 18 months or so before a revision but hey. I have previously torn an NF and that I knew about immediately, this just feels different and has been steadily getting worse. Just curious if anyone was advised there was a finite period on a wrap. I was kind of advised after the revision that it would loosen but it was just a comment afterwards and not a definitive statement.

They say that a NF usually lasts up to 15 years. When I asked my surgeon about the longevity of my wrap, he told me that mine should be good for the duration as I'm at a healthy weight and don't do anything that would potentially compromise the wrap. I think you'll find that all surgeons opinions tend to differ. I do know that after two Nissens, the next revision is likely not to be as effective and is sometimes done as a open procedure. Do you know if you had a full or a partial/floppy wrap?

Hi Sahron , I had full wrap twice albeit the revision was to repair as it was more than 50% undone and both were lap. I honestly am having real problems and I even dream I am being sick which wakes me up with a full mouth. The acid is not great but the real big issue for me is the reflux and the thick coating in the back of the throat. PPI treatment sorts the burn but not the motility disorder, I am hoping to get seen by doctor in next week but I worry it will be 18 months before diagnosis.

Was the revision done by the surgeon that did the original surgery? Good luck with your doctor's appointment, and let us know what you find out.

Hi Sharon, the revision was done by the original surgeon but I still had to have motility testing and a camera. I know the original surgeon has stopped practicing and my local authority has stopped treatment for reflux. So I guess back onto the waiting list. Will keep everyone posted.
