Hi I’ve not been on this site for many years. I used to be on as McEdge. As you can see by the title I’m having problems with my Fundoplication. I’ve had a fantastic 9 years since having the procedure but now all the old symptoms have returned. I’ve started to have tests so far an endoscopy but nothing showed up although that doesn’t worry me as the hernia I had originally didn’t show up either on the endoscopy. I’ve been to see my original surgeon and he suggested a ct scan so I guess I’ll wait and see.
My surgeon did my original Fundoplication after seeing my demeester score because he said it’s 99.9 % it’s ahernia I’m not sure this time if it’s the hernia or the Fundoplication that’s failed. I’ve already told the surgeon I want a redo just hoping something shows up on the ct scan.

You can use the search engine for fundoplication re-dos. You can have many types of hernia that have nothing to do with a failed fundo, but can cause some of your symptoms.

Also, this site is staffed by volunteers, and the Forum has been very slow. Responses may be slow in coming.

I just joined. I've had a redo my first surgery lasted for 13 years. The second one was done 12 years ago. The second is now faililing and I have no options if it does fail. I don't mean to sound so negative. My case was very extreme and there were a lot of complications. While it worked there were still obstacles in my living a healthy life. I hope you get the answers you need. Keep pushing ask for other opinions from different doctors if you have too. I only wish I had done that early on. A redo can be even harder to recover from depending on your situation.

I am in the Barret's Esophagus surveillance program as MSKCC, The head of Esophgeal surgery mainly does surgery for adenocarcinoma of the esophagus. She created the surveillance program for patients who have GERD, with Barret's esophagus with no dysplasia like me. She says she does partial toupet fundoplication for patients who are not successful in treating their GERD with medication, but her experience is that they usually need a repair at or around 8 years. Based on what she said maybe you might need a repair as the expected life of the operation maybe has been reached.

Hi all, I had a redo after original fundo tore at around 12 months. Now it’s 11 years on and I am having the old symptoms again so expect another redo. Being in uk I have been on a waiting list to see a doctor for 7 months and then I guess it will be another 18 months to 2years before any surgery. I was told there was an average life of of 10 years and to be fair I got that time before the symptoms became enough that I saw my go for referral. I am kind of expecting next time will probably be open as I have had 3 significant laparoscopic abdomen surgeries to date with 2 being fundo. The recovery each time was quite hard and I am not getting younger but it’s a case of take it a little at a time and you will get there.
