Esophagitis - pain and anxiety

Hey everyone,
I have had acid reflux on and off and was diagnosed with GERD a few years ago. I did not have any major issues until this October. From the end of November, I have burning in my esophagus. I ate a toasted sandwich and then the hell broke loose with all the pain and difficulty in swallowing. PCP put me on Pepcid and asked me to let it heal. I eat bland, low fat, veggie diet except for cheating a little with dessert during Christmas. Close to a month and I still have on and off heartburn and difficulty in swallowing on some days. I feel quite better for a couple of days and the next day I have chest pain and discomfort. I don't understand what's happening with me.

Edit: please tell me how long does esophagitis take to heal and if pepcid has helped anyone.

Thank you for the response. I feel the same about acid suppression. It is scary as I neither had a swallowing difficulty nor had heard about it. Thank you letting me know that a month may not be enough.
I am trying to get to a GE. But it's taking time.

I'm sorry you still have it after an year. My doctor still doesn't think I need an endoscopy. But I still feel anxious. A lot of it went away but I still have that weird sensation while taking pills. I'm trying to calm down while eating agreeable foods. But occasionally, I slip.

Try and keep a food diary to try and pinpoint your trigger foods. Also, there is a high amount of lactic acid in sourdough bread. It works great for most people with reflux, but not for all. Also, anxiety/stress can cause/make your symptoms seem worse. Talk to your gastro doctor about how often he feels necessary for repeat endoscopies.

Hi JGC23; I am in same situation with grade b oesphigitius , this all started last year with h plyroi which cleared up with antibiotics but left me with gastritis for 4 months which then cleared up completely but I relaxed the drinking too much and got gastritis back in December but in Feb of this year I started to feel burning all the time, and specialist put me on 10 mg to start nexium plus nortripalyine, but the burning continued. She thought I was just sensitive to the gastritis but an endoscopy in April showed mild gastritis, not chronic, and grade b. Since then for 3 weeks have been on 40 nexium but feel it is getting worse not better. Just had my momentry and 24 impedance test. Nurse doing it said sallow is perfect and value les in normal range, but I get full results on Wednesday. I not sure what to do I do a bland diet, take the tablets but it doesn’t improve and my worst symptom is my tongue. It is always burning and sore, my throat is too but that comes and goes but my tongue is constant. I don’t feel any liquid coming up my throat but I feel the burning tongue and throat. Do you get this? Also I use to be ok at night but now it is burning at night as well mainly my tongue and my mouth is bone dry, wakes me up and I sleep on a wedge.
I just want this to clear up, I know it did last year but I only had all this burning for a few weeks then, and now it is months with no improvement.

I had my results back from tests and momentry was normal, no miss functioning of valve or swallow, the impedance test showed no reflux of any kind, all normal, so strange when I feel symptom's. Consultant said if my main symptoms are tongue and sometimes throat they are not being caused by acid as no acid coming up and the esophagitis she did see , she said was minimal and will be healed by now. So I am going to see a ear, nose, throat specialist just to make sure all is ok and the dentist. Specialist thinks I am over concerned about my symptoms and that is the real issue as there is no real evidence if a problem and my gastritis has healed completely. Told me to now relax the diet as much this time and be careful and as you said alcohol is no friend to these issues.
