Hi all, it’s a while since my last visit here and not all smooth sailing!
I had my fundlopication early 2019 with little success. Still on meds, hiatus hernia has returned and dumping a problem. I hadn’t vomited until this week and now I’m feeling nauseous whenever and after I eat. When I vomited it was limited, very small amount and not the usual gush and get rid of feeling. I also passed out twice, probably a vegas nerve thing. Has anyone had any experience of this?

No I have not, other than the occasional wave of nausea (I use Zofran for nausea), I don't have any side effects. Did your surgeon tell you that after you have the Fundo, you shouldn't be able to vomit? In your situation, I highly suggest you get a second opinion from another surgeon. Have you recently had any follow-up endoscopies? Unfortunately, people have the tendency to blame everything on the vagus nerve damage. I would get it checked out. Also, there are a lot of viruses out there, and you may have something like that going on with everything else.

I had my nissen fundoplication due to a 4cm hiatus harnia and recovery is not smooth. its 15 days post op and i developed nausea on day 13, its extreme especially after meals. gastro has prescribed an anti nausea which somehow has helped as its day 16 today but not much. i also developed quite painful sore throat on day 10 and its still going on and i am unable to help it. i guess i share the pain and lets wait and watch as its too early in my recovery process.

You will need to always keep a prescription for anti-nausea medication - I use Zofran. It's common to have waves of nausea that come from nowhere. If you are experiencing throat issues, you may be advancing your diet too quickly. Try going back to a soft/mushy/liquid diet for a week. You are really early into your recovery. I didn't feel much better until about 6 months post surgery, and the new me at around 1 year.

Thank you Sharon, really appreciate it. I visited my gastro yesterday and he prescribed esomeprazole 40mg and famotidine 40mg and an anti nausea medicine and I am feeling better with this. I am worried that I am still getting reflux if so is the case then the was surgery worth it. this is why these anti acids have been prescribed or may be as you said its too early. Fortunately I haven't had to vomit though it feels like I will puke due to nausea

Before I had surgery, we discussed that I would no longer be able to belch as I had before and that I would lose the ability to vomit. This has never been an issue for me.

Here I am home from hospital after redo surgery. The doctor is happy with how it went and has a good prognosis ….. there was plenty of scar tissue to deal with but I feel better than after the first OP … new doctor …. It’s 3 days no heartburn a joy after constant burning !🤞😊
