Feeling worse before starting to feel better on Flagyl?

I am one week Into taking Flagyl (Metronidazole) for SIBO symptoms. I just read that you can feel worse before you feel better, that is how I feel right now. Is this possible? What would be the reasoning?

I dont think Flagyl can eradicate SIBO... there are other antibiotics targeted for SIBO and only antibiotic therapy cant relieve you of SIBO symptoms. You will need to cut back on carbs, sugars and remain in low FODMAP diet for months. After the antibiotic therapy you need to intake probiotics, ideally organic probiotics. Its a long process. I wont suggest to use Flagyl alone. Talk to your doctor and have a proper diagnosis before beginning treatment plan. There are breath tests to diagnose SIBO.

Thank you very much for your thoughtful reply. With my medical plan, I cannot get a breath test until the beginning of February. I am not eating, I won’t last that long, so my primary gave me the antibiotic, it was covered by insurance, to see if it will help me at all. I was desperate, and I’m very glad she listened to me. I have a lot of appointments coming up in the future, one with a nutritionist, the breath test in February, I will follow through with those, but in the meantime, I needed something to see if I could feel better. I’ve been losing way too much weight. With all the burping, I cannot eat.

At this point you can't be sure that you have SIBO. I'm not sure why they prescribed flagyl. Flagyl is an antibiotic that is used to treat bacterial infections of the vagina, stomach, liver, skin, joints, brain and spinal cord, lungs, heart, or bloodstream. It may be hard, but you can't just stop eating. If you stop/severly cut back on eating it will cause a host of other issues. Make sure they test for h. Pylori bacteria.
