Traveling after Nissen

Hi, I'm a first time poster. I am about to schedule my lap or robotic Nissen procedure, hopefully the week after July 4th. That will give me roughly 3 weeks before I'm scheduled to fly to a conference out of state. I had hoped to schedule it in June, but I cannot get the esophageal manometry until next week, then another appointment with the surgeon a week later - at which point I hope to schedule the procedure. My question is do you think I'll be ready to travel that soon? I will have co-workers flying with me who can carry my luggage for me, but I'm just concerned about how I'm going to feel. I know the diet will be an issue, as I won't be ready for truly solid foods, but I am hoping I can make do. I am a college instructor and I'm off work (well, working from home) for June and July, then supposed to go back to work after the conference. I can take more time off if needed, but this conference and flight has already been paid for with grant funds. Just trying to get a feel for how the recovery will be at the three week mark, barring any unforeseen circumstances.

Thank you for your reply, Sharon. At this point, I'm not sure, because my Esophageal Function (manometry) test was just postponed for possibly two weeks while the catheter is being repaired. I'm trying to find somewhere else to test. I was trying to hard to have the surgery before August 1st when I return to work, so I wouldn't have to take so much leave. I teach at a college, and I don't get substitutes, so after classes start in mid-August, it's hard for me to just take off and recover - I'll constantly be answering emails, etc. We shall we see what happens, but I don't think I'll travel if I am able to get the surgery in July. I think it would just be too much. Thanks again!
