Well, I've just been told that I have GERD. My worst symptom is NAUSEA. Does anyone else get it? And, I was surprised with the diagnosis since I don't eat spicy foods, drink pop, smoke etc. Chocolate, STarbuck's Mocha, Yes. But, why now?

Were you diagnosed based on your symptoms or did they do a scope to confirm?
How bad are your symptoms?

I got this from taking a lot of motrin, lortab, etc...for pain one summer. It is very hard to control and for many a daily battle...lots of pain and discomfort.
I am currently on nexium but have taken every drug offered for this stuff and there does not seem to be a magic pill. I hope you can find relief. If you know something aggravates it...don't mess around with it. I drank 1/2 a can of root beer a few months ago...cause I was feeling so good I thought I could and ended up in major (as in no work) pain for 5 days. This stuff is not normal.

No scope, clinical diagnosis. Mainly burning in chest, and the really BAD nausea.

Mine started 3 years ago and I was first put on nexium but I have no insurance and am really stubborn about
meds so as soon as I felt even a little better...I would go off the meds and it would come back worse than ever. Did this over and over until a couple of months ago and finally had the scope done and thankfully it showed no damage but he said it was for sure reflux. I am back on nexium and have some good days but pain daily and am just hoping for it to go away. The doc and nurses tell me it could take many many months (should say years?) to get complete relief and then I will need to continue to take it. My doctor's favorite word for reflux is CHRONIC!! He seems to think I am daft since I go on and off the ppis!! I feel for you cause this is an awful thing to deal with. I ate pasta and bread a week ago and have been in pain since then. I am off work this week anyway but I don't know if I could have gone in. Crazy, huh? No one would believe it unless they were going through it too.

Nexium in the morning and Maalox as needed, which is lots. I'll be fine one day and night, and then symptomatic another.

well, I am going to stay on the Nexium, but go to my holistic doctor to see if anything else can be done. Maybe acupuncture.

I used the liquid Maalox, bought tablets to have when I'm out and eat about
30 minutes after taking the meds. Chewing gum does seem to help the chest burning.

I have tried everything and researched this for months. I even went off the nexium one time and drank vinegar water for a month...and really felt good and then one day out of nowhere the acid reflux hit and I desperately went back on the nexium
I take probiotics and fiber every day to help straighten out my digestive system and I drink this awful tasting stuff called noni juice
Mine seems to coincide with sinus symptoms.....my nose burns really really bad when I have a flare up.
I am sorry you have the nausea....maybe someone else on here can help...I have always heard ginger is good for that and the reflux

Thanks for the info. I guess it's just one of those lovely things we face in life. Could be worse, but the only good that is coming from it, is that I am losing weight. Wanted to do that for a long time, but I sure miss all my fun food.

Actually losing weight could help with the gerd? And don't wear tight clothing.
I miss just being able to eat and drink without having to think about
it.
I feel like such an idiot for eating that pasta...so not worth it. How can it cause pain a week later. I mean...it is not in you anymore? This stuff is beyond my understanding.
I know it is all related because I get gas really really bad before the burping and heartburn start.....sometimes my stomach burns and boy can my stomach....or whatever make noises!!
Well...I am signing off for the night...I sure do wish you well.
One thing that helps....if I am feeling really bad....I will eat some protein (red meat usually) and it calms down for a while....I am not a meat eater usually so I don't know why this works.
This stuff can get to you...I rented Cheaper by the Dozen 2 for my family and while watching it all I could think was how could she handle 12 kids if she had acid reflux? I promise that went through my head!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
