Odd question about GERD and heart

Okay.. this may sound weird.. but has anyone ever felt what they thought were "heart palpitations" and it turned out to be related to GERD or severe gas? They can't seem to find these "palpiations" that I feel on the monitors. Wore a Holter twice for 72hrs.. nothing showed up..even tho I recorded several "events".

Also.. what others describe as Palpitations.. are not what I feel. I have no pain, no dizziness, nothing. I just feel a quick "jump" in my chest area. After all the tests on my heart.. the doc just wrote it off as palpitations and said don't worry. Well... I'd worry less if they AREN'T..lol.

I get them mostly when I have a lot of gas issues. Or when I have eaten and laid down. I never feel them when I'm up and moving around. Since I do have GERD is it possible I'm feeling something related to that?

Anyone else get this?

I don't think it's that strange. Most people go realize how big the stomach area is. Gas can be both in your stomach and eventually come out. Try gas X maybe. That's what I have been doing. I take 2 of the cheapie generic gas X when I really feel plugged up. They did a nuclear stress test on my heart because my spasms were so bad.

I too experience weird feelings relating to palpitations and fast heart rate.  This has been occuring for three years. Went for an EKG - showed nothing. Haven't pursued it any further, but I feel it's GERD related from what I've read. It doesn't happen as often as it did, so therefore I am presuming it's not a heart problem. I've changed my diet and have been eaten with the confines of bland food and have been feeling a little better.  I hope you find some relief.

I have experienced this on many occasions in the past. It's a little scary with the quickenings, as I refer to them, one could easily mistake them for palps, but in my case it was GERD related/gas. I've taken Maalox on these occasions which allieves this discomfort.

I am sooooo glad that I am not the only one with this issue..lol. I was beginning to think I was nuts. My doc never even wanted to get to the "root" cause of these feelings. He sent me to cardio, and I underwent all the tests, and they said my heart is fine, good and strong, so my doc just passed them off as "benign" heart palpitations, or benign PVCs. Said they won't hurt me, everyone gets them.. blah, blah, blah. Which is good news, don't get me wrong.. BUT, when you are the one having them, a pat on the head doesn't do much!!!! I asked him once could they be GERD related, or chest muscle issues... his answer.. "yep". (no, he is NOT a big talker, or explainer..lol)
Now I am being very vigilant with these. Last night I felt one while I was laying in bed... I let it go a sec and focused on my stomach, and sure enough... felt gas bubbling through my side. I am a smoker who is trying to quit.. and I eat a lot of sunflower seeds in the shell in the evenings. I'm wondering if these are causing gas, since you do tend to gulp some air while cracking shell and such.

Hi Sarah,
The sunflower seeds is probably the culprit for your gas. My hubby quit smoking months ago, and he's constantly poping sunflower seeds of various flavors;pickles, b-bque, & jalepeno, etc...I have tried a handful on occasion but know that these seeds/nuts aren't my biggest friends if eaten in excess.

Good luck w/smoking cessation, I will start a class on the 1st of Aug. The last time I quit, fireballs, lots of water, & exercise, exercise, exercise were my friends........

I just have to say.. eeeeeew.. pickle flavored? I love my sunflower seeds, I really do I think I'd rather suffer than give them up. Over the course of the last few days, I've made some discoveries about my pain that could answer the gas/spasm question.. if I could just find a doc at least somewhat knowledgeable!!!
I have a curvature of the spine in the cervical area, due to low back herniations and having to "compensate" for the pain by hunching somewhat. I think that this is what is causing my excessive upper body pain, and may be causing the spasms as well. I mean.. I'm kindof squished in the abnominal area b/c of this. Heard anything that could justify this?
