1 week post gallbladder surgery

Well, so far there have been no changes to my GI distress at all. Im still having really, really bad burning pain.  I even increased my prilosec (yep, dr knows) and I am still miserable.  Still having bad constipation as well.

Do I just need to give it more time?

I'm on day number 12 and I'm just now feeling better from the pain. I've had a terrible experience. I'd never do anything like that again unless my symptoms were much, much worse! I can't believe that is an outpatients procedure. It should NOT BE from my experience. I should have been in the hospital for overnight for sure or at least for several hours.

Then 33hours afterwards, I had what the doctor thinks was a reaction to the pain meds and had to go off them. He told be to take TYLENOL. (HA HA HA) He has no experience with fibromyalgia patients. It is obvious! It has all been a horrible experinece. I don't even want to think about what the day of surgery was like. I just hope it will be erased from my mind if I don't think about it!

I still have what they think is abdominal spasms and the heating pad if helping that. I still can't go to the store shopping because it hurts so bad to move around that much and I can't clean my house or change the sheets on my bed as I like. I'm use to being very active and taking care of my daughter and all her activities and my house.

The surgeon said that I'd be sore for three days and back to a regular routine in 5. (LIAR!!!) I told him my doctor thought I had fibromyalgia. I am not even close to a regular routine. Today is the first day since surgery that I felt OK and I'm starting to hurt again tonight now. It has been 12DAYS!!!!!

I saw him Wednesday for a post-op follow-up. He said that as far as he is concerned we're done. My pathology report came back as my gallbladder being irritated and slightly inflammed. THAT's ALL! The pain they were so sure was from my gallbladder CAME BACK after only 5 DAYS! I am frustrated!

However after today I am hopeful that maybe after another couple of weeks, MAYBE I will be back to normal and can get my old life back.

P.S. I have alot of pain in my knee that my GP told me they could fix with laproscopic surgery. Guess what I'm gonna say-NO WAY! NO WAY! NO WAY! I will live with the pain I know rather than go through such a nightnmare again! I DO NOT trust doctors or their meds or their procedures!

I'm not trying to scare you but I had gallbladder surgery 7 mo. ago & i'm still having trouble. I did not have stones, hida scan showed 12 & half (what ever that means ) I go back & forth d or const. I have the pains that they thought gb was causing I have had to many docs & test to even mention . I just this week went to barnes in St. Louis Mo. to see a new doc . He believes my problems now are from not having gb. He also dx'ed me with ibs & dyspepia & thinks that is what it was even before gb was removed. Hopes I like the way your surgeon says he's done; don't feel bad mine told me at least we know it's not your gb hurting & that he was done! Don't give up hope yet, every surgery I've ever had & was told I'd be back to work in 3 days has took me months. Nal are you on a stool softner? If not you need to be & if that does not work ask for some miralax. If you are still on painkillers they will const. you.

sad  sorry to hear about all the suffering, but at the same time i get to have a heads up if it is ever suggested for me to have my gb removed. yeah, that surgeons has got your money and he probably knows that if you are not gooing to feel better there truly is nothing more he can do, the gall bladder is gone,,oops, that was not the problem after all. it is truly a shame that we have to learn the hard way. thanks for all three of your inputs, i will listen and learn.

Thanks guys.  Actually, I do not regret having my GB out at all.  Especially after today.  I had such severe burning pain last night that I ended up in the ER this morning.  The dr I saw said the pathology report on my GB did indeed indicate gallbladder disease.  Even if it doesn't relieve my symptoms if I would have left it in, it could have gotten more infected over time and that can even lead to things like cancer of the gallbladder.  Cancer runs incredibly high in my family so no thank you.

As far as money to the surgeon goes (and I know all about that too dreamgirl-been there in the past), this surgeon is in the Air Force.  Therefore, he is paid salary by rank and gets no extra money for surgeries and there is no out of pocket expense to me.  Thanks goodness!!

Im back on percocet, had some morphine today.  All my labs looked good and so did an x-ray they took while I was there.  He told me to strictly stay low fat for the next couple months (no one told me this before!) and no alcohol for the same lenght of time.

Hey guys I am already scared to death to have this surgery and after reading the "horror" about it all I am about to cancel it  I am having my colonospy done the 14 th and gallbladder surgery

on the 21st I have stones and sludge in mine. but I also have upper left pressure in my stomach

and sometimes like stabbing gas pains in my abdomen too and alot of rumbling so checkin it all!!

also get that burning discomfort all the way acroos upper abdomen I hope it is all gb related

If you have stones and sludge, it really needs to come out. It could give you major problems. Please don't pay any attention to my rant. I did not have stones or sludge. I had alot of chest pain and some nausea. My HIDA scan showed that my gallbladder was not working and my cardiologist really thought it would help me. Who knows.....maybe things will improve with some time. My biggest problem, I imagine, is that my GP suspects that I have fibromyalgia and I am sure it is THAT which has caused me such problems with the pain and my recovery. I pretty much live with that problem. It seems that for most people who have their gallbladder removed they really DO feel good and normal within a week. Think positive! It need to come out if you have stones and sludge. If I had to do all over again, I would only take mine out for those reasons. Good Luck.
