I have GERD and a hiatal hernia and take medication for it (ppotoxix 120mg & zantac 300mg).
My doctor advised me not to drink coffee or tea including decaffeinated, carbonated beverages, anything with caffeine, citrus juices etc. Can someone tell me what others with this problem drink?
Thank you in advance.

I try to drink mostly water. Sometimes I have noticed that a glass of milk helps. You can have juice but i would stay clear from Orange Juice or anything with Orange or pinapple in it, those are the worse for me. I like to drink white grape peach juice. I know it can be a big change when all of a sudden you have to stop drinking cokes and coffee but they really do make it worse. Good luck and hope you start feeling better.

You can drink herbal teas like chamomile. I do drink decaf and it doesn't bother me as much as regular coffee. I stay away from citrus fruits completely. I drink a lot of apple juice and water of course but not with my meals.

Thank you everyone, I’ll try the different juices, herbal tea and lemon water.
Precious, is there a reason not to drink with your meals?
Is eating a few spoonfuls of honey recommended or helpful?

Equate,
MY GI doctor said it can cause regurgitation when you drink too much water during meals. I have noticed it too.

I noticed that lemon water is mentioned here, but I usually get the opposite effect with lemons causing me heartburn/reflux? Is lemon an alkalizer? If so, what does this mean, am I too alkaline or too acidic?

Dorrie,
I don't think you should use lemon while you still have alot of problems with GERD, it's extremely acidic.
Lemon does alkalinize in your stomach but it will burn going down. Just drink water -Fiji water is the most alkaline.
If anyone drinks chamomile tea, drink only if you don't have allergies to pollen etc.
It's from a flower in the daisy family, very allergenic.
