Gastroparesis Diet for Delayed Stomach Emptying

This disorder should definitely be listed as another Disease and Condition, anyone with it has to follow a completeley different diet than people with GERD.  Please post a new topic on GASTROPARESIS.

Thankyou Indersonu and DANIE. I eat oatmeal, is this ok to eat as it helps me with my bowel movements. . . . . :-)

Is it also best for me to avoid full cream milk as I do use this because I have a youngster who loves it. I would like to drink soya milk but I just cant stand the taste. I need my milk so is there any other milk I can drink that tastes similar to cow's milk.

Thankyou so much. I know when I drink milk or have it in tea, it really bloats me.

Try SILK soymilk, it comes in vanilla and chocolate flavors and plain.  It's excellent and the only soymilk I could ever use.

You could also try goatsmilk, you need to get that in health food stores though.  It does have a different taste but is extremely easily digested.

DANIE, the gastroparesis is what caused my refluxing.  That is quite common.  For this reason, in a way I don't think that gastroparesis should be listed under another category.

I am glad that my post about gastroparesis has brought attention to it and that people are posting info. on it.

I DON'T NO IF ANYBODY HAS THE SAME PROBLEM BUT I HAVE BLOATING IN MY UPPER STOMACH-PAIN INBETWEEN MY CHEST AND SHORTNESS OF BREATH. I SOMETIMES HAVE BURNING IN MY THROAT. THE PAIN NEVER GOES AWAY AND I HAVE BEEN ON EVERY REFLUX MEDICATION. HAS ANYONE BEEN ON MEDS FOR MOTILITY OF THE ESOPHOGUS.

I HAVE SHORTNESS OF BREATH AND PAIN INBETWEEN MY CHEST. I ALSO HAVE ACID COMING INTO MY THROAT. I HAVE BEEN ON EVERY REFLUX MED THERE IS AND NOTHING WORKES. DOES ANYONE HAVE THE SAME PROBLEMS

I HAVE SEEN 5 DIFFERNET GASTRO DOCTERS AND THEY ALL SAY SOMETHING DIFFERENT BUT DON'T SEEM TO HELP. I ACTUALLY WENT TODAY TO SEE A GOOD DOCTER AT NYU IN MANHATTAN AND HE THINKS IT IS A MOTILITY PROBLEM OF MY ESOPHOGAS AND ORDERED SOME MORE TESTS.

I am finally going to schedule my test for gastroparesis AND get a colonoscopy.

i have been on every reflux and ibs medication there is and nothing works. i have had two endoscopys-1 sallowing study with barriom- and a ct of my pelvis and stomach and a sono gram and they are lost they saw a small haital hernia and some reflux, now i switched docters to the top and he ordered a motility study and ph test to be done on wednesday in his office. I DON'T NO ANYMORE!!!!!

Last year I had the gastric emptying test, and also have the reflux because of the motillity issue, and have colon inertia as well. I was diagnosed with Barretts 2 years ago, and before that I had no reflux problems in my life....but always consitpation. I think everything is related to the constipation. I am currently on protonix, and it works only sometimes. I have tried numerous ppi's, and am starting to see a chinese dr. My biggest problem is back up saliva in my mouth, or a terrible taste in my mouth. I seldom have typical heartburn. I have tried the DLS licorice and it didn't help at all. I'm not sure if it's because i don't have typical heartburn or not, but it did nothing for the problems I do have.

my esophogus is fine alittle iretatted not much. but my intestines are iretated. I am now seeing a new docter hopefully something will help. I feel like i can't get that extra breath all the time and i saw a pulmonary docter and everything is fine.

Chalupa, I hope that you're somehow able to get to the bottom of your problem.

How did you find out that you had an intestinal problem?  colonoscopy?  My colonoscopy is at 2 today...

Thanks for the advice about the chinese dr.  I have been to my regular gastrologist, as well as the specialists at Shands Hospital in Florida.  I have also been to the Colon and Rectal Center in Orlando.  I know what the problem is; my colon is not working, and hasn't my whole life.  I'm 51 now, and I've relied on laxatives my entire life.  I had my first colonoscopy at 21, so this isn't anything new.  The reflux, however, is new.  I'm not overweight, get a fair amount of exercise,and am very active socially.  I'm just trying the chinese dr. as a last resort....I've been through so many tests,and the bottom line is use laxatives or have my colon surgically removed...which is truly a last resort.

My doctors all feel the reflux is because of my bowel problem, and I'm just grasping at straws here.  Thanks again.

chalupa, have you thought about gluten intolerance? This can cause asthma, for whatever reasons. I changed my son's diet and he's put on weight, doesn't get upset stomachs anymore and his asthma is soooo much better.

I WAS TESTED FOR CELIACS DISEASE AND IT CAME BACK NEGATIVE SO THEY TOLD ME THAT I WAS NOT ALLERGIC TO GLUTEN. NOT THAT I AM REALLY SURE WHAT THAT MEANS. I WOKE UP THIS WAY IN JUNE. I HAVE NOT BEEN ON MEDS NOW FOR 4 DAYS BECAUSE TOMORROW I AM HAVING A SWALLOWING STUDY. NOW I FEEL I AM HAVING TROUBLE SWALLOWING LIKE MY THROAT IS CLOSING IS THIS NORMAL. MY TONGUE LOOKS WHITE ON THE SIDES AND NOW I AM HAVING TROUBLE SLEEPING.

I have just been diagnosed with gastroparesis. I am currently only on a liquid diet. Does anyone know how long I should stay like this. I am scared I am going to lose even more weight! I am currently taking Reglan. Does anyone take something that has worked better than this med?

I have gartroparesis and had surgery for a gastic pacemaker dec 6, 2007.  I am still having alot of problems and vomiting and bloating and mostly am able to just have a liquid diet.  is there anything else that can be done to help make this better.  I had spent 6 weeks in the hospital due to vomiting and servere pain in my stomach and now they say that they might have to take my stomach out.  is this a good idea or not.  please let me know
