Rena,
Don't know if this will help, it's just an experience I had. I was eating Chinese food, fried rice (not greasy) was very hungry and took a big mouthful, and when I tried to swallow it, it felt like a banana turned sideways in my throat. As I the swallow continued, when it got to my chest, it felt like a big painful ball that stretched and stretched as it tried to get down. I drank a lot of water to help it down, but my chest actually hurt. At the time I was in physical therapy for injuries from a car accident, my mid-back and shoulders, I told the physcial therapist about the experience and she checked on the amount of tension in the front ribs attachments (at my breasts) and found them to be very tight. She worked on my back, mid back, first, then she worked on loosening up the tightness in the front. It seems after an injury like mine, my posture was slumping, or rolling my shoulders forward, over time the muscles tighten that way, kind of like taking your shoulders and holding them tightly over your stomach, actually shortening your distance from shoulder to stomach.
After working the mid back, then the front breast-plate area, she could then stretch my torso out. It was painful while she did it, but when I left there I felt lighter and free. Swallowing became easy. Daily stretching of that area is a daily thing for me now, and I also lay across a hard foam roll to keep my upper torso open.
I also had a bit of a problem swallowing because I was taking an anti-depressant, following the cancer death of my Father, along with allergy medicines during allergy season. The two combined dried me out, I had less saliva, leaving my throat easy to be almost scratchy, especially if I ate popcorn, pretzels, or Triscuits, anything dry I had to sure I had water, or they'd almost get stuck!
I also had the Endoscopy for this, it seemed odd that all of a sudden I could not eat my favorite food, popcorn. But in looking back I could see it was not all of a sudden. If I had journaled every day, I could have just looked back to see I was taking two medications, that both stated as possible side effects, "dry mouth, constipation" Those two things only happen if your body's natural "mositure" is being altered, by like medicines.
Being depressed at the time, and having just lost my Father to Esophogal and stomach cancer, I was not the quickest to put it all together.
Like I said, maybe no of this is at all similar to your situation, but I just thought I'd put it out there 'cause you just never know.
Good Luck, Gremma
