pain in left shoulder

Hi,

I woke up last night with pain in my left shoulder that sometimes radiated to my left breast. My left arm also hurt but it was more of a dull ache. I was up for several hours. It seems to have gone away now. Is this typical with gerd?

Hi there Camelot. I am sorry it has taken me so long to reply to you. There have been a few issues with me posting, because of our anti spam filter. Anyway, I am here now, and I hope this post will work. Aches and pains come along with GERD do include chest pains, of course, but the fact that it is in your left side, and radiating to your left breast would tell me there could be something else going on. I would suggest going to the ER if the pains get worse, or if you have any other side effects that could be cardiac related such as... Shortness of breath, nausea, breaking out into a sweat, increased heart rate, lightheaded, fainting, vomitting, and of course, if the pain in your chest doesn't seem to go away, or goes away and comes back, or gets worse. If you feel fine, I would still suggest calling your doctor 1st thing Monday morning, and getting in ASAP. When you are dealing with your heart, there is no room to make mistakes. That is why when it comes to chest pains and things like that, I suggest getting a doctors opinion...always. Please, keep us updated as to how you are over the weekend, and let us know what your doctor says. Please, don't hesitate going to the ER if you are in doubt!! Hi,

I went to the er yesterday as I was having alot of constant pain in my upper right abdomen. My blood pressure was 180/124. It finally did drop down to 148/98 though after a couple of hours. The dr did blood work, urinalysis, and also an xray to see if I had a kidney stone. Everything was normal. She told me to follow up with my surgeon and regular dr. She said to take 800 mg of ibuprofen every 8 hrs and gave me a script for levsin to take every 3 to 4 hours as needed. The levsin helps considerably with the pain but not the constant pressure. I will take what I can get.

I have a HIDA scan of the gall bladder scheduled for Thursday. I also have an upper endoscopy scheduled for Monday.

Hey Camelot. I am glad to hear you went to the ER...your blood pressure was rather high, even after it came down some, it was still somewhat high. Do you have any issues with blood pressure? I am glad to hear you have scans scheduled for the end of this week, and beginning of next. I would love to know how those go, and I do hope you share. If you need anything, don't hesitate to come here. I am always on! In the meantime, take the meds as prescribed, and do what you can to stay comfortable. Wishing you all the best, always!

Hi,

I actually do take medicine for high blood pressure. However in the last several months the dosage was reduced several times. I have only had problems with it going higher in about the last month as I have not felt well first due to a viral infection then because of this abdominal pain.

I am not sure of what the doctor will find. I have been tested twice in the last 5 yrs for gall bladder. I also have been dxed with gerd although until advised by my dr recently I haven't had any symptoms or needed prevacid since around May. It doesn't feel like gerd as my throat is totally fine no hoarseness or soreness or trouble swallowing. I also have very little heartburn.

I know I was eating poorly though so maybe it is gerd just presenting itself differently.

I wish the dr could take this pressure in my upper right abdomen away. It rather feels like something is really swollen in there. I am appreciating the levsin taking away that darn pain though.

Hopefully one of my upcoming tests will reveal something.

I do have a gerd question- can either gerd or gastritis cause a low grade fever?

Hi there Camelot! I also hope your upcoming tests reveal something, and something that is easy to manage or fix. I hate the thought of anyone suffering. Aches and pains can be a real pain in the butt, especially when you don't know where they come from. As for if GERD or gastritis can cause a low grade fever...I have never heard of this. Though, I won't eliminate the possiblity all together. A low grade fever could be a sign of a number of illnesses, some severe, some no big deal at all. I wouldn't worry unless the fevers are persistant, in which case I would run it by your doctor. I have checked the internet pretty thourouly, and I see nothing linking GERD to fevers of any sort. Maybe someone else will come along with experience in that. I truly hope you get some answers soon. There is nothing worse than the unkown! And, thanks for asking how I am feeling today. Not bad, actually. I am a little frustrated with my hair, because it is curly, and I straighten it DAILy, and that is getting on my nerves! (It is time consuming.) And, I actually had some annoying burning in my throat...which is something I haven't dealt with in a while. Other than that, today was a fine day...Thanks for asking! Hope you have a great night!

I am 27yrs old and have been dealing with this for a while. It started off with chest pain and then that feeling of something being stuck in my throat. I'm tired and feel like my head is in a cload, that spacey feeling. I don't have this symptoms all the time they come and go. I had this feeling in my throat all day long some days. Eating never had anything to do with it. It would come even on an empty stomach. I have had Drs. tell me it is acid relux. I seen a GI Dr. and he did a EGD with a bravo placement to check my bodys PH level. Like I already knew I didn't have acid reflux. I didn't think I had all the symptoms. I didn't have the burning feeling in my chest and the acid taste in my mouth. My Dr. sent me in to have an MRI done. To make sure everything was ok in that area. I seen a Neurologist to get the results and found out that I have Chiari Malformation Type 1. Only an MRI can tell f you have this. Not an X-ray or Ct scan Basically Chiari Malformation is where your brain is to big for your skull or your skull is miss shaped and it pushes you brain back. It causes the brain tonsils in the back of your head to be pushed out of the bottom of your skull. Causing a hernia. They call it herniated tonsils. It restrict the spinal fluid to your brain. It can cause alot of problems.

Hi,

I was diagnosed with chiari one malformation in 1995. I had a suboccipital craniectomy in early 1997. If you have not heard of the world arnold chiari malformation association- the website is www.wacma.com. They are an excellent resource for support and information.

I found out today from my surgeon's office that I will have to have my bladder out. THe hida scan showed that it is functioning at 16%. I guess normal is 35% or higher. I thought that would get me out of the upper endoscopy scheduled for Monday but he still wants me to have it. He will tell me on Monday when my gall bladder will have to come out.

Try this first. Go to an all natural for store or Vitamin store. Buy a full body cleanse. Talk to someone there. It will help the functioning of your liver and gall badder. I wish I would have known then what I know now about natural herbs and vitamins. I had my gall bladder out in June this year. It wasn't that bad but I do wish I could of tried other remedies first instead of jumping right into surgery. So try natural remedies first. It can't make it any worst. Its worth a shot. Let me know how things go.

hey i was wondering what your symptoms are for chiari, because my friend said to maybe get checked for that because the doctors thought that he had acid reflux but it turned out to be chiari, so i was wondering if you could tell me your symptoms

I had multiple systems from my chiari. major headaches, blurred and double vision, brain fog and vertigo being the main ones.

btw I have also had to take prevacid for GERD in the past- that may have been caused by a med I used to take though as it has resolved now.

would you say that i probably don't have chiari because i havn't been getting any headaches or blurred or double vision or any of the other stuff you mentioned, the reason why i asked was because i have been experiencing neck pain and i was told that is something that can happen with with chiari, but theres a good chance that its just from the lack of sleep from the acid reflux and all of my anxiety associated with acid reflux

Neck pain is also a symptom of chiari. I had neck pain as well. the only way to tell if you have it is to get your dr to order an mri.
