Hi Everyone! I am new to forum. I have read the boards for the past few days and decided to post today. I am weaning off of aciphex after 2+ years. I was originally placed on the medicine in 2006 while my husband was deployed to the desert. I had been taking 300mg of zantac 2x a day prior to that. Needless to say I was under a great deal of stress (living overseas as well with a 3 year old and and 1 year old) at the time. I had numerous side effects in the beginning--anxiety symptoms were greatly aggravated, leg cramps, hot flashes, etc. I also noticed that I became (still do) anxious if I missed a dose (would look at the clock and realize I should have taken med a couple of hours earlier). To be fair, it controlled my reflux well-- almost too well. I was/am able to eat or drink anything I want. However, weird side effects started occuring a few weeks ago. I had horrible joint and muscle pain, blurry vision, and pronounced hair loss among others. I asked my doctor about weaning off and she replied that there is no weaning just stop taking it and if I had symptoms return in a few days that I need to keep taking it. I have since done research and there is a way to wean off (take my dose 20mg every other day). I am also taking zantac 150mg on the days that I don't take the aciphex. My goal is to be off the aciphex and on zantac only in a few weeks. Stress does aggravate the reflux but am trying to destress as much as possible. I am also walking every day for a least 40 minutes. Is there anything else I could be doing to help the tapering off?
