Does Gerd cause chest pain?

Hi all, I am new to the site and am usually in the U.C. section. I was diagnosed with Ulcerative colitis and Gerd last Aug. 07. Prior to that I had a massive heart attack in Oct. 04. I noticed about 4 weeks ago I started having bad chest pains that felt like built up gas. I sometimes belch or gas afterwards and it would go away. The pain feels like a cramping in the chest and part of my arms. It does not feel like what I felt in Oct. 04. But have made apptmt with cardio. Was just wondering if anyone else has had similiar feelings. I am so screwed up with U.C. I don't know my body much anymore. Don't know what is Gerd, what is U.C. or maybe my heart. But I am having it checked out. Would appreciate any help or opinions.

Hello there elephantlover, and welcome to the GERD section of HEALINGWELL. I am glad you are finding help over in the UC section, and I am happy you have come here for some suggestions!!! I am though sorry you are dealing with so much! The fact that when the pain goes away after belching is actually a good sign that it may not be your heart. That could definatley be a sign of your GERD acting up. I am not saying that it's NOT your heart, and I am happy to hear that you have an appointment with your cardio. That should definately be looked into. In the meantime, if you start to feel anything abnormal, if your chest pain is extremely persistant, or in anyway bothersome beyond what is regular for you right now, don't hesitate to call 9-1-1. Having had a heart attack already enhances your chances for another one. And, as I am sure you already know, the heart isn't the organ to mess around with. I do hope you keep us updated as to what goes on at your doctors visit. I'd like to hear what is going on with you. Until your appointment, try to take it easy, and relax. And, just be cautious of the different feelings you are having. Wishing you all the best hun!

Hi elephantlover! I had terrible chest pains with my GERD. Sometimes they were crushing and it was difficult to get a breath. I aslo had my right arm go numb or tingly which is pretty scary! I got my heart checked out thoroughly and then found out it was GERD. So if you find that your heart is AOK it could very well be GERD. Good luck and let us know how you go! :-)
