Hello I am a 42 year old male recently diagnosed with Hiatal Hernia, GERD and erosive esophagitis.  I went to see a GI in April and was prescribed to take Zegerid to treat the acid refluxes and Carafate to treat the ulcers in the esophagus.  I found out that Carafate has a dry mouth side effect which I was suffering badly.  I stopped taking that medication 4 days ago after two and half weeks of taking it and still trying to gain saliva back but was told it would take about a week for the drug to be flushed from my body for dryness to go away.  I found out that Zegerid does not cause dry mouth but I am wondering if it does to me.  I am in a dilemma. 

Please help me!  I don't want to go through long term of side effects of medications I am taking.

zegerid is an immediate release proton pump inhibitor, ppi.
Not sure if it will cause dry mouth, but meds effect everone
differently. I was taking protonix for a long time and
didnt get much relief, and didnt like the side effects, I found
an organic drink called Haldi, at Whole foods markets
in New York and DC area, and it helped me come off
my ppi. That may be an option for you, but do not
just take yourself off of meds as a general rule. Good

Thanks for your reply Yuckgut! Are you suffering the same condition I am which are Hiatal Hernia, GERD and erosive esophagus? Have you ever taken Zegerid? I am wondering the true effect of Zegerid on anyone who are taking them. I thought about Nexium until I found out it has dry mouth side effect. Please help me!
