My husband has been able to control his reflux with nexium for years, then about
3 months ago he began
having terrible pains in the bottom middle of his rib cage radiating pain to the lower right back. Severe nausea unable to eat, always feeling like he is going to throw up. Terrible headaches won't go away. The pain has increased so intensely that this week his GI ordered a gall bladder scan, endoscopy and an mri with contrast of his liver, pancreas and gall bladder. He personally requested the results from all three (stat) and let me know the results the same day. The esophagus and stomach lining is a little inflamed and gall stones were ruled out. His liver enzymes are elevated but he is on so much medication due to
having ulcerated colitis and degenerative spine disease that he feels the meds are what is elevating his
liver. He went thru a liver biopsy several years ago because of high elevation and everything was o.k.
with the liver. I was so sure it was gall bladder related due to the symptoms of severe pain, reflux nausea and bloating, unable to eat but the tests rule that out.
I ran across the nissen information thru this forum and have never heard of this before. We live in Orlando and Tampa or Mayo Clinic Jax. does this procedure so is this something I should request to have done? , we seem to be out of options. He woke up at 3:00 am. this morning in such severe pain and vomiting I kept begging him to let me call 911 but he said there would be nothing they could do for him.
Sorry this is so long, but my heart breaks for him in such pain and I feel so helpless to help.
He takes pain pills (oxycodone, percosect) to help the severe headaches and pain, phenegrene for nausea but nothing helps.
His GI is so wonderful and I think he is a little loss at what to suggest, he wants us back in the office Monday for some more blood work to check his liver enzymes.
