Wow congrats on the length of time of meds. I am eating pretty much all fruits except for citrus. I dont drink the teas anymore I kind of got tired of Chamomile and Linden. They did help though when the rebound was kicking in high gear. I found out one thing though the rebound kind of comes in phases. First you get the sudden rush as all the acid comes back then when that calms down your left with some irritaion that I have found the Carafate usefull for. Otherwise small meals nothing heavy no Pepperoni pizzas just health sensible meals that include vegetables and lean meats. I hope to be where you are soon 4 months and feeling good. Keep up the good work your an inspiration to us all

Hi everyone. It's been so long since I last posted. I think it was early 2006. I also went off the PPI (Prilosec) cold turkey and have been doing well until lately. I also used the DGL licorice and also Aloe vera and Zantac sparingly. I got over the acid rebound. Anyway, I had hardly any heartburn even during my pregnancy but I could not take the aloe vera and the DGL that time. Thank God I was fine without them. Anyway, lately prob bec. of stress and me eating junk again, I've been getting some reflux issues again and the dr gave me some Nexium which I am so not wanting to take. The reflux is mostly just at night. I've been taking Zantac off and on for months now to help....does anyone know if this is ok to take long term? I think it's been 6 months now.

Anyway, I just want to pipe in and say hello!

Are you taking 75mg of Zantac OTC?  Anytime you are taking a medication either RX or OTC you should discuss the use of the medication and the long term effects of the med with your physician.

I am sorry to hear you are having problems after doing well for a long period of time.

Yes I'm taking 75 mg OTC and yes my PCP is aware of it. He said it's fine but of course I'm always concerned about these meds. The PCP I see now thinks I should try Nexium but I don't think I need it since it's not everyday that I have the heartburn and also Zantac is working for me. I've just been so stressed this past year, with the baby and the finances, we lost our house, DH got laid off, etc. I think the stress is causing my heartburn.

I'm going to buy some DGL licorice and try that since that has helped me a lot in the past.

Hi all. This is my first ever "letter" to this forum. I've had GERD for10 or 11 years now.I was on pepcid for awhile,then prilosec now Nexium.I've been on the Nexium for 2 years. I'm thinking about having the fundoplication surgery. My dr. seems content to leave me on meds which at this moment arn't working. Any thoughts?

OK I'm on day 2 of Nexium and I have been feeling nauseauted and dizzy. I think I don't want to be on this anymore and want to try Prilosec instead which is the last one I used 2 yrs ago.

I appreciate all of the information from members. I am trying to get off Nexium. My problem is my desire to keep drinking and eating foods and drinks that are not good for me. I have previously gone to an acupuncturist for the digestion problems. She was very helpful and gave me some herbs to take called "Quiet Digestion" from Health Concerns - Chinese Traditional Formula. I get them from Chinese Herbs Direct. I have been taking them without going to the acupuncturist, but may return to her. I don't think I can do this myself. Good luck everyone!
