Oh Boy! Getting the flu after having the Nissen = No Fun!

So it hit me at 2 this morning and before you know it; it was trying to leave my body as fast as it could from both directions. :(

What a dumb bunny, I couldn't figure out why I had the dry heaves, by this time though, my Husband was awake and reminded me about Nissen = no vomiting! Eventually, though, Mother Nature had her way and I actually did vomit a little bit. It was very painful and it has scared the beejeebies out of me!!

I'm exactly 5 months post-op and I'm afraid I may have hurt my repair. Because one just can't have too much fun in one's life, I recently decided that maybe I should herniate a disk in my spine, L-5 & C-7 to be exact. We've just barely got the pain from this thing under control when I went off on my spree last night. By 4 a.m I was in so much pain, both from my back, and more frighteningly, at the GE Juncture.

My Husband got me to the point where I could take some darvocet and I finally fell asleep around 6 am. I called my GI doc this morning; we're going to monitor for a little bit (mostly because we leave on Wednesday for Tucson and South Carolina) and then schedule a barium swallow to see if everything is okay.

I haven't had anything like this in over 20 years and it picks now to show up and remind me how much fun life can be (LOL)....5 months after surgery...and yes, I did get my flu shot; technically this isn't the flu; just a bug!!
(anybody have a can of Raid??) And who said Mother Nature didn't have a sense of humor????

Please tell me that someone else out there has had this fun little experience and found that their repair is
a-okay!!!

I have only had the flu twice in the 13 years since Nissen surgery and it was not fun either time. I absolutely can not vomit and dry heaves are horrible. Both times I have had to have anti-nausea suppositories that take 2 hours to take affect and last about 2 hours and you can only take it every 6 hours. I am sure some people think not vomiting would be great, but that is not the case!

I am SO sorry to hear you've got the flu and the yuks that go with it especially on "our" anniversary. 

It's so interesting how we've all responded different ways to the surgery.  I discovered not long after the surgery that I can throw up quite easily.  I remember the first time I thought I could eat some fried chicken - I had been CRAVING it for weeks since the surgery.

I took a few bites and shortly thereafter it all came back up.  I actually threw up several times after that when first experimenting with eating solid foods.

To this very day I have trouble eating and swallowing lunchmeat, of all things.  If I want to be reminded of that suffocating feeling I can just decide to eat a slice of lunchmeat and oh yeah, there it is, I remember what that felt like.
