Gastritis!!! with horrible heeartburning !!! I have one Question ...

***CAN GASTRITIS lead to gerd/heartburn - is it temporary or will this be a permanant disrder ??  Ive never had heartburn before this DX was concluded... at least nothing i ever noticed prior to this **** thank you for caring and taking some time to help me

Since the beginning of 08' i have been battling with severe constipation

my GI doc prescribed miralax ( which helped in the past but stopped) to bentyl and symax (which made me tired and loopy)

I never had any previous experience with HEARTBURN - burning pain in throat and chest - that has ceaselessly been agonizing me for 2months now -- my Gi did a endoscopy (3 weeks ago) which he said i had gastritis!  placed me on ppi;s that do not work - im still burning like hell ( i have jumped from prevacid nexium and protonix - no avail)

i have been doing aloe ( lily of the desert stomach formula) and slippery elm - for 2 weeks and i have not noticed any relief

i cold turkey'd my ppi's and the first day i was fine (still burning was bad) -- and lastnight I had an indescribable burning rage that was twice the intensity of what i daily experience!  I popped 2 solutab prevacids ( that were in my pocket) immediately and it gave a some relief -- but burned badly a couple of hours later...

 i cant live with this seething burning pain anymore - its destroying my sanity

should i just stick with ppi's for now and just hope it kicks in? or what >

im just so done with this disaster -- horrible constipation is one thing now I have to battle this too and it just seems like too much

Take a deep breath. Your in good company there is alot of wisdom on this forum. You sound like I did a few weeks ago and beleive me I totally understand your frustration. I like you had been through the PPI gambit while never reaching nexium and it seems that none of them were working. PPI are not for everyone each of us is different. Tell us a bit about yourself and whats going on in your life. There are two important factors that do not help Gastritis and thats diet and stress. . One concern is that you went cold turkey off of the PPI becuase they were not working. Your doctor should have been included in that decision because you will find that there are rebound effects from quitting and from what I have found it makes no difference if you have been on it a short or long time. Having said that there are a few changes you can make that might help. For example take out irritating foods off your diet such as citrus,spicy foods and carbonated beverages. Eat smaller portions and at regular times. Do not lay down for several hours after eating. Try to get enough sleep this will help with stress. Speaking about stress is your life hectic and are you eating on the run this does not help if it is. Find time to relax go for a walk listen to some music.

Lastly take it one day at a time breath and know that your needed. This whole experience will make you stronger. A doctor told me once "your not from mars they will figure it out"

I have been off the PPI now for 23 days and while life is not exactly perfect its getting better every day.
