Nissen HELP..., need info....

Hey Joe,
Im Beatrice. Im scheduled for the nissan in may .may 7th to be exact. Im afraid however what lies ahead is in gods hands for me. I do not have heartburn and really never did. I do have gerd but i have severe complications fro it. I had 3 dilations of my esphagus as food was stcking in my throat. I also had nausea all the time. I had the bravo and 3 endoscopes. I cannot get the manometry becuz i have seizures. When they attempted to place the tube, i had an aura and they cudnt proceed. In any event ,besides this my LES is inoperable it doesnt work accordingly so here I am awaiting surgery. Yes you will lose weight!!!! YAYYYY thats probably the only good thin about the surgery in my eyes. We r forced to lose it, without our consent lol. I am 5 ft 7 inches and 185. I am hopin to lose 2. Good luck

There is a wonderful crowd of supporton here. Denise, Bill, Wendi & Janice. They have had the surgeries although Im not sure if Bill went for his 2nd yet. Howver, They have been very mind soothing if ya get my drift. I am 44 years old.I am hoping I dont come out 64 years old. Every 1 is afraid of the unknown .They say the progress is slow so patience is a virtue. Howver the weight loss probbaly will be quick cuz who gains weight on liquids.

I plan on having everything i love prior to my surgery. I am still tryna pick my favorites. I love pasta, chick parm eggplant STEAK WILL BE MY 1st and last thing i eat though. If i go out i wanna go out rib eye style. lol at least I can always act like the rib eye is still inside for 3 months during recovery lol

I only hope i have the least amount of pain possible. Ive had double surgery in 2007 .Hernia in my groin and then laproscopic for my gall bladder, I did not use any pain killers although the hernia was worse then my 2 c sections. I dont know how ball players deal with those surgeries .In any event my 5 brothers joke about how they removed my D** . I tell them It was becuase of them I grew one.LOL

My hubby will be taken off of work for 2.5 weeks to care for me, Thank god. Just have a god supportive loving family thats important.

If you look back at my earlier threads, I've described the recovery from the very beginning.

It is not bad at all! Depending upon your doctor, your eating will progress pretty quickly. I was on liquids in the hospital (one night), and was moved to soft foods the next day. By Day 5, the doctor said I could eat anything I could chew to liquid, which left a lot of leeway. The eating was much better than i thought. I figured I'd be on liquids for a long time, but wasn't.

At first you can't eat much, so you will lose weight. I've lot 20 pounds. I could lose less if I wanted--I could eat more meals and take in more calories, but to this point I've enjoyed the weight loss. If it continues much more, I'll probably pop in a few snacks.

I can eat a lot more now than I could in the early weeks (I'm Week 8), but am still at about half of my normal intake (actually less than half of my normal gluttonous intake!). Now when we go out for dinner there are lots of things I can choose to eat, but I will only eat about half of any entree. My husband gets to enjoy the rest for lunch!

The recovery is not that painful at all. I only took one pain pill. (By the way, if you can insist on elixir/liquid pain medicine you'll be glad you did.)
I switched to liquid Tylenol (rather than Motrin because of a gastritis issue), and that was plenty for any pain I had. It is amazing how pain free you'll be.

Shoulder pain is a problem, but I swear by walking a lot to ease it. It worked for me. I didn't have much trouble at all, and I walked every day.

Don't worry. It will be fine.

If you get scheduled in May that will make atleast 3 of us that month. I actually got a little nervous talking out the details with the surgeon to day and then thought...Dumby, you have already done this once, what's the big deal. All is well now. Come on 5/18!

Your posts were extremely helpful to me when I was contemplating the surgery and recovering afterward. Although you've struggled through lots of problems, your constant acceptance of your situation and positive attitude gave me courage. Also, the fact that your were ready and willing to redo the surgery made me realize that it can't be all that bad, and that the results are well worth the recovery process.

I wish you all the very best with your upcoming surgery. I hope that you find relief, and can go back to enjoying food again! You are such a positive person, that your attitude will certainly help in your recovery. You've got an entire forum rooting for a successful repair and quick recovery!
