Thanks and good luck with the Linx trial. The last test sounds like an Esophogram (barium swallow study). I really like the idea of the Linx. I sure hope it is successful and gets approved.

Hi everyone, I am new here and have been looking for some possible answers. I have had Barret's Esophagus since 2001. It has been an up and down battle all the way. I had an endoscope done a week or so ago and am currently waiting for the biopsy reports. The pictures showed a lot of damage and concern for cancer. The past three days I have been vomiting acid and my stomach and esophagus feels like a fiery inferno. Everything I try to eat makes me sick. I am scared and it is like none of my medications work anymore. I am waiting for my GI doctor to call me back. But in the mean time is there anything that will cure Barret's?

What time are you scheduled? I'll be rootin' and praying. I'm down to 12 days! Got the run down today at the hospital. They do thing a lot different there than the hospital down here. It is a teaching hospital though. I am filling out my power of attorney now. Since I have a past diagnoses of sleep apnea (not bad, just slowed breathing) they said they may put a breathing tube in before I get to the OR. Now that sounds like fun! Anyhow, I just wanted to tell you good luck and I'm here if you need to talk(just email me).

Dreamcatcher, I have Barretts that has been healed now for about 3 months. It may be deeper, but it is a very small percentage that turns do cancer. There is still a couple more stages and they have a lot of different ways to treat it. The wait for results is horrible, but necessary.

Hi everyone,
I thought my surgery date was going to be moved back. The blood test showed elevated white cell count. I haven't had a cold or flu or anything like that. They wanted to do a urine test to rule out an infection. I then remembered I had a ear infection3 or 4 weeks ago and wasn't prescribed antibiotics because I didn't have a sore throat or anything besides a sore ear. It was more like simmers ear and I was given ear drops, that of course I didn't finish. I know, BAD Bill. Anyways, seems that is what is elevating it because my urine analysis is good. Now if they would have just done that Wed. when I was at the hospital...Oh well. Seems all is a go now still for my surgery. Getting this close and having something like this try to screw it up gets frustrating. Sorry I just needed to vent a little. I also wanted to ask if anyone here that has had surgery has had them intubate you before going into the OR? Looks like I may have a 50/50 chance at this happening and am not to thrill at the idea. I hope they will sedate me before this, but I have had some very good (bad) memories of the times I had EGD's done with less than needed sedation. Some of them I remember VERY well. I couldn't do or say anything, but I felt and remember all of it. Not very pleasant. I hope this doesn't happen this way. I know...You big weenie!

Bill, I know exactly what you are talking about because I have had more than one EGD and colonoscopy done with way too little sedation. In fact 2x I was wide awake. My doc now won't do them unless they do a general on me. You have every reason to be apprehensive about it. I know what you mean about worrying about some little thing causing surgery to be canceled. I went through that with my last surgery. The day I went for my preop I was worried sick they would find some thing wrong and cancel it. I'll keep you in my prayers that all goes well. Try not to worry and do some things that help you relax. That seemed to help me before my surgery. Barb

I know I've worried myself sick the week before a EGD and or colonoscopy wondering if they will give me enough medication. My doc finally decided on a General because i had been on long term pain meds after my accident and he said my body would never respond the same to the medication again. Not that it was working all that great before that. Make sure you ask for something before they take you down to surgery. My anesthesiologist asked me if I wanted some happy juice before I went down to surgery. Yeah that is what he called it! He was very strange. He reminded me of the surgeon Todd on SCRUBS. My husband and daughter thought so too. We had a laugh about that. I took him up on it though and it helped some. He gave me versaid. I think it helped the general anesthesia work faster too. It'll be over before you know it. Barb

How is everyone tonight? Hope everyone is doing well.
I have been taken strong dose of PPi lately, now it seems that I have bad pain on my upper arm bone. Does anyone know what to take or do to prevent osteoporosis? My upper arm - the bone inside seem to hurt pretty bad.... Does drinking milk help? Does milk cause more acid?
Oh by the way, does anyone know that drinking coconut juice help reduce acid?
I am trying to reduce reflux... My throat seem pretty raw with all this reflux ...

Good to hear from you. I haven't heard about the coconut juice thing. Are you trying that? When my reflux was really bad I needed a cow I drank so much milk.

It's been a rough couple weeks around hear.Just waiting for my surgery dste . I really hop this cures my rib problems also. We will see in a week of so.I have been really lowering the food intake and does seems to help a bunch. I stay hungry all the time, but it is worth it to me. only one week to go. The the count down begin. I have so many things I want to write and know I will never have enough time to get it all on here.

Hi every one, hang in there Bill. I know it's hard to wait and think about up coming surgery. I was the same way where i wanted to get so much done before my surgery, but I never did get it all done. I'll keep you in my prayers.

Marie, my uncle told me to try the extra virgin coconut oil and it did nothing for my acid reflux. I take pepcid over the counter 20mg in am and 20mg in pm and then my nexium in the am and this is the best my stomach has been in 8 years. I don't know how long it will last, but I'm enjoying sleeping better for the first time in years. My Nurse practitioner who is my PC pointed out that these 2 meds work in different ways to go at the problem from 2 different angles and it has worked for me so far. Talk to your doctor about maybe 2 different class of meds for your problem. It might help you. It does sound like you really should consider the surgery too. You don't want to let something like this go. Barb

Yep, I have a rib nerve issue they think is complicated by the dysphagia. Strange connection huh? Anyhow, I have to lift relatively large and heavy blades and such at work and doing so has aggravated my rib issues. Sort of a danged if you do and danged if you don't. They had me try an epidural since the intercostal nerve blocks weren't helping and want me to stay off work until after the surgery. I talked them into letting mr decide if I can work the rest of the week by how I feel tomorrow(today). Right now my spine is hurting fairly bad since the numbness wore off. I don't have to be at work until 10pm, so I 'll see how things go. I sure could use one last decent check, but having to take pain meds and work around high speed machines doesn't go together. Another danged if you do and danged of you don't situation.
I am hoping the 18th is a beautiful day for us both. Would be kinda cool to know someone had a baby on the same day I had the surgery. Let me know how things go with the niece's baby.

Well it's 3:19 am and I can't sleep...Again! My back won't stop aching. I was warned this might happen, oh well. I actually woke up with some heartburn also. That hasn't happened in a while. Been trying to analyze what I had eaten yesterday that could have caused it. Nothing different except I did try to eat some grilled chicken from KFC. I haven't tried any chicken in a long time, that might be the culprit. Of course the 3 glasses of water needed to get it down probably didn't help either :). I sure do miss eating juicy chicken and a med rare steak.....Someday. There are just so many different flavors of soups, pudding, and jellos I can tolerate. They tend to get old after a while also. Wow....I am just Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah. Sorry, everyone else is a sleep and I needed to vent or something. I wish everyone a very happy day and especially Bea, keep going slow and you will be all healed before you know it. Denise and Barb, sorry about the sinus stuff. If it's anything like here you 2 are in for some rough days ahead. The weeds are popping like crazy!

Sorry you're having so much trouble, and can't sleep. This is a place where you CAN vent! Good thing you're not on work. You need to rest up! Hope you get a good nap today. I'm sure you're looking forward to eating normally again. It's been a long road. Even with all these problems, your general attitude is still positive! Keep it up! A good attitude makes all the difference in the world.

ahh Bill, sorry to hear about your night. I actually awoke at 2am. I am not use to sleeping so since the surgery, I am sleeping . I dont know if I have fear of choking in my sleep or If its the stitches that have awaken me. I sleep way better then i did its just that sleeping straight thru has me puzzled. I have been up for 3 years straight getting a minimal of 2to 4hours a nite. Physically exhauseted during the day. Its like im expecting the expected but its no longer expected. In my mind though...lol. So last night I had a little fear. First one since my surgery. All though i have since the surgery awoke fro the stitches minor aches. I hope it wasnt gerd or my A**is in trouble.lol I hope you got some rest and boy what I wouldnt do for a rib eye steak 2.
Today i was alittle depressed becuz I had 3 spoons of smart balance oatmeal. I just wanna sit and eatlike the world.I wanna be so full where i fall asleep with drool in my ear from a scrumptous home cooked meal but then I say "This is what had you here today"

Hi every one, I hate to tell you this but it will be a long time before you will be able to eat a normal size meal. And make sure you don't push it because if you eat too much you will pay with hours of pain and misery. I know from experience. As soon as you feel full stop. Not one more bite. I made that mistake and it was not fun. I think it was over a year before I could eat a normal meal(meat, starch & veggie). I still have problems 9 years later if I don't stop as soon as I feel full. It will get better though as time goes by.

Sorry you were up last night Bill. I was up 3x myself which is not the norm of late for me since I got my stomach under control. Unfortunatly since i now sleep sounder I have become a night grinder. My teeth were so bad today that I can't chew at all with out pain and my jaw and teeth throb so I called the dentist and told him I can't wait any longer to get a guard to wear at night. I'll pay with a credit card and then send it in to my flex spending account. I can't believe it costs $500 and insurance rarely pays for it any way so there isn't any point in waiting the three weeks to see if they will. I can't stand the pain any more. I go thursday to have the cast done and then I will get it on the 27th. Well I hope I sleep better tonight as I have a big day tomorrow. We have our spring banquet for the seniors. Just a thought, but could you try one of the mouth guard for softball or something? The one my daughter had you could heat up and mold it to your mouth. Oh, I also saw the other day in a magazine at the doctors they have one for grinding that is retail. It has an adjustable pad on each side to fit anyone's mouth size and is connected by a thin part that goes to the front. I am sorry I don't remember who makes it though. I think it was in a Better Homes and Garden.
You also are VERY correct about watching how much you eat. I still have to watch how much or I feel terrible.

I found it. It is called Splintek SleepRight night guard. For around $50.00. There are also custom ones you can get for about $80.00 were you send them a mold from a kit and they make one for you.
