Teala, I'm fine, surgery is scheduled for the 19th; they were just worried that there was more than they originally found. BTW, take a look at my post in the post op nissen; I posted something for you and Rick, hopefully it will give you some peace.

Wow! y'all have been busy.
Janice -I am so happy it was nothing to worry about. My wife has to get her left side rechecked every 6 months for 2 years because of a dense area. So far so good and it's been a year now.

I have tried the beef and chicken broth here today and neither will do. Both area WAY to salty for me. I couldn't even get the ice thingy to go down, it was to sweet. Something like an Italian ice. So right now I am sticking to water, apple juice, and trying to get tea to go. I usually drink sweet tea, but right now my taste buds must be all messed up.
Right now I am still on TPN and Lipids along with the PCA as needed. They didn't order anything else for pain yet. But was he right about it still hurting. That cold water hit my stomach and I thought it turned inside out. And still for no reason it will spasm and cramp up, wow that hurts.
I had to have my nurse modify the dressing over my PICC. I started itching pretty bad a couple days ago. So they used a different type that has more cloth around the edges. Well that didn't work either. Tonight it started burning so I peeled back to corner and a good layer of skin came with it. I have problems with certain tapes. If they leave the sticky patches for the heart monitor on too long it takes alot of skin with it. Anyhow, I am sure I have missed something I was wanting to comment on that was written earlier, but I am so tired I forget.
Bea, the keys on this laptop are sticking also and it will jump all over once in a while. My son spilled something on it and it is very sticky. I think I'll buy one of Ebay for him, there about $10. I won my daughter a laptop while I have been here. I just missed out on getting 3 identical to the one I am using now. Nobody bid on them and it ended while I was at the EGD. They would have went for $23.39 a piece, shipping included. That's my luck.

Awwww that sucks Bill. I guess you can't be a rebel and go outside then. Lol. I think I would lose my mind if I couldn't go out side for that long when it was nice out. Winter wouldn't bother me though. I stumped my doctor today too. He said he didn't know why my knuckles would swell and get red from carpel tunnel but he said the hand doc I have been seeing has alot more experience in that area and that he should know what he's talking about. He did the test where he bent my hands back and tapped my wrist until I had shocks go down my fingers so I have no doubt I have carpel tunnel but will surgery get rid of all the problems? Who knows? I am going to talk to the HR person at work Monday about me taking off for another surgery when I have no sick time left. I may have to use some vacation time. I thought I was going to get my shot for my tailbone today cry , but it's a big production and they need to book a surgical suite and get permission from my heart doc to take me off the plavix for a while. Probably a week before and after like surgery and scopes. I didn't know it was that big of a deal. Oh well I hope it's soon so I can ride my bike pain free. I am so gald to hear that your eating again. It may take a while for your tummy to get used to that again. I know it took quite some time for me after my first episode of UC and nine days in the hospital to get it under control. I really had to take it easy with eating for a while after that. Just keep up your great attitude. I told the nurse today when she asked me if I had depression I told her no, but people tell me I should be with all my problems, but that's no fun. I always say better to laugh than cry. My whole family has a good sense of humor and that can really get you through some tough spots. Take care and keep getting better. Barb

Good Morning Bill,

Graduation was awesome last night, perfect weather, perfect granddaughter.  :-) .  She was so beautiful and the greatest young lady on the field.  The  Select Chorale  performed to songs and Kayla is a member so she was front and center..........how proud I was.  She is also a member of the Global Language Honor Society.  And to think just yesterday I  walked the floors with her when she had colic.

I am glad you are starting to tolerate a bit of fluids.  My sister loved popsicles but you said you are having trouble with hot and cold.  You can just lick on popsicles verses drinking a cold fluid .......just a thought.

I am so glad you do not have C-Diff.  My sister had it twice it was not fun.  Now I do believe it is time to turn up the volume, cheering squad get ready.  We have to shout Bill well.  GET WELL BILL.  turn turn turn turn

God bless sliced bread and Zofran.  I love that drug and always insist on being premedicated anytime I have to have a procedure under sedation.  I get vertigo easiy and the Zofran works like a charm keeping back the nausea.

Your itiching is known as Opioid-induced Pruritus.

Changing to an opioid with less histamine-releasing properties (i.e. hydromorphone, oxymorphone & fentanyl) does occasionally provide relief but does not reliably relieve pruritus.  I think you mentioned you Dr. had considered Fentanyl.

Good Morning Bill, hope you are doing even better this morning. Can you let your jello set until it's room temp as well as the other things? That might help. Well don't let the popcicles or that would just be a mess. Lol.

Congrats Kitt on the granddaughter graduating. My granddaughter will just be starting school this fall. Grandkids are one of Gods greatest gifts. Bill is such an awesome Dad that he will make an outstanding grandpa some day. Have a great day every one. Barb

Hi everyone -
Just stopped by for a quick update. After virtually no pain when drinking yesterday, this morning was another story. I was only able to drink the small cup of apple juice and tried one cube of jello and the pain came back. Not quite as bad, but enough to make me slide all foods away and find that PCA button again. I hadn't used it all night either. We'll see what lunch brings.
They told me this morning I may go home tomorrow if all goes well.

Sorry to hear that Bill your not tolerating food well. Could it be gas since you haven't eaten in so long? I know gas can cause some horrible pain. I didn't know gas could hurt so bad unitl this last surgery. I sure hope they can let you go soon. I know how bad you want out of there. It's better to recover at home any way if possible. Bill - Good Saturday morning or perhaps afternoon where u are. It is nice that your getting some fluids in. Have u tried Gatorade or the like ? I drink that kind of stuff regularly but I have to have it at room temp to maybe u might like it, just a suggestion.

I was tickled to hear about your EBay win. I have been selling on EBay for like 8 years. My husband and I started it early on before most ppl knew about it and it wasn't so hip then. Now everyone in the world does EBay and my goodness it has changed so much. You absolutely can get some of the most fantastic bargains on there, it's amazing. Bill do you or your wife do yard/estate sales to?

Bill, my 5 year old sang Bill's a little teapot (I told her u were sick and trying to get well ) for you so you can feel better... LOL Hope it helped.

Janice -  I think I found the post u were speaking of. I will try to go back through the posts there. It seems every time I start trying to catch up reading the posts my 5 year old comes in and needs something or just babbles on about something so I lose my place and train of thought getting pulled from where I'm at.  That's why I have to sort of skim over things to get the just of it and miss some things. I will post to you in that topic.

Kitt - the graduation sounded lovely. Good for her. This day and age I think it is difficult on kids to stay focused with so much going on in schools with cut backs and all so kudos to the ones that stick it out.

Bea - I gotta tell u something I thought was funny and totally weird. I  told u I should set an appointment cause of the pain and stuff, well this was freaky to me. I went and picked up the mail and what was in there but a letter from my doctor that did my surgery stating I should come back in to have a follow up to keep on top of things. Is that weird or what ? I take that as a sign that someone is telling me something.

Well, lunch was worse. I ate a couple small bites of mashed taters, a couple pieces of green beans, and 2 bites of ice cream and you will never guess what happened. OK, maybe you can, the pain in my left side came back. Not as bad as what brought me back here, but pretty dang bad. It's not letting up either. Hope the PCA will let me get ahead of it soon.
Teala- I can hear that song and it is gonna be stuck in my head all day! We haven't done the yard sale thing in a long time, but my mom and sister always do.

How can they send you home if you are in that much pain from eating? I mean you can't even drink stuff without pain. You'll end up dehydrated. I sure hope they get that figured out before they send you on your way because you don't want to have to go right back there again. Well I hope they get this figured out soon for your sake. Hi Kitt,

 a steak umm is a philly cheesesteak.Minus the cheese though. Im very proud of your grandaughter.What a blessing. My 2 children are on the National Honor society. My 17 year old  (Kara) is in a 4year mandarin pprogram..She just won the NYS chinese speakers award for her school, again.Award night is in 2 weeks .I cant wait.Imagine, there are only 3 Americans and she reads,writes and speaks mandarin better then the chinese students. This is her second Year winning this,although she is a junior. My 16 year old (Bria)is an Air force rotc .Wins awards every 3 months. I do not have enuf wall space.I wish I can go back in time when they were babies just becuz I always had enuf room on the refrig for their crayon pics.

I'm wondering is colic a grandparent thing?LOL I asked becuz when I had my first child (Nikki) she was colic and I swear for god if I didnt have my father (cuz I didnt even know what colic was)If i didnt have that man, I would just be getting out doing my 20 years LOL. I had no idea what colic was or pablem, my dearest daddy walked the floors with her, turned on the vacuum and it was magic. Now when Nikki had my grandbaby,she was COLIC and I became my father and my daughter became me. LOL MAGIC!!

I took my grandbaby to a kiddie party this morning until my daughter got out of physical therapy. I must say,as bubbly as I am ,I still dont have it in me to be "On the go". Thank God my baby Haley just wanted to stay on my lap glued to my chest.I couldnt do all that jumping in the moonwalk,running thru tubes etc. When my daughter came she loosened up. After that we went to the Fiesta Italian. I had baked ziti, chickn cutlet parm.I was dying to try the sausage and greasaball peppers.Nothing like that!! LOL but I was scared. I also wanted to try the zeppoles but maybe next time. after it was all said and done, I topped it will a reeses plikeanut butter sundae from baskin robbins. I am stuffed and happy. I think I need a nap though but am holding out. Im thinking "how will i lose 10 more pounds eating like this". Okay maybe tomorrow I will take it slow.

Anyway, I hope the gang is all well. I am thinking of everyone. Bill, I am so happy for you!!

Howdy everybody,
I have decided I am giving up on eating. I tried some peas, spice cake and a tiny bit of chicken breast with gravy for supper. If I would have known the pain I was in for I wouldn't have even lifted the lid. I almost felt my 10 pain again, I'd say 9.5 easy. It took an hour and a half to get it under control. That was with the PCA doses of 1.5 every 10 mins. and 2 extra shots of 3 also. My nurse broke it off in the doctors hind end. She didn't show up after 30 mins. and wouldn't give any orders over the phone. She called her back and then was given orders to add extra morphine. Then she still didn't show up for over another hour. Then all she suggested was if it happens again while eating, stop eating. Wow...wish I could have thought of that. Oh yeah, that's exactly what I did. Anyhow, Some of these students that are on call sure do act like it is too much trouble to go somewhere and they shouldn't be bothered.
Not sure what happened or if it will effect me getting out of here. It was almost exactly the same as what brought me back here the 21st. I am back to using the PCA regularly again as per the nurse. She said to not let the pain get any higher tonight. I think I am going to ask for full liquids or at least soft diet for tomorrow. It is quite clear my stomach isn't ready for regular food yet. That spiced cake was pretty good though.
All that extra morphine sure kicked in the itching after wards. I thought I had fleas or something. I need a change of scenery. I wonder if I could get into my fifth room before I leave. Hmmmm doubt it. Ok, enough ranting or venting or whining, whatever I am doing. Everyone enjoy saturday night!

I did get a short nap in, Benedryll induced. My nurse bought it a little early this time because of how bad I was itching earlier. I was watching the movie Popeye. I hadn't seen it in along time and fell asleep about half way through it. I might watch it again though. It is on the computer. I just realized We both have Gizmos in the family. My cat is named Gizmo. He is nuts. Michelle told me he is missing me a lot. He always sleep right next to me, just plops down and slides right up tight with his head on my arm.
Most of the ladies from the softball team are on facebook now and send me messages once in a while. The pitchers and catchers can't wait til I get back. The other coach is calling pitches and he takes too long because he has to look at a cheat sheet for the signs. HE HE!
Anyhow, I appreciate everything y'all have done so far. It would be really easy to get depressed in here. You have definitely helped keep me away from that. Michelle is going to head back up here right after work tomorrow. She gets off at 4:30 usually, but can leave earlier if everything is caught up. It will be great to see her again.

Shoot and by golly I am so sorry you did not tolerate the spice cake.  You did not happen to save it for me did ya? devil

I remember the residents and the med students from my sister's many months of being in the hospital.  I made sure I used patient's rights when talking to them.  I may not be a physician but with 26 years of ICU/ER nursing expereince and managing an ER I do know patients have rights.

Weekends were usually tough as the attending physicians were not willing to run in and the residents/students did not want to make any decisions.

I am glad you have some great nurses advocating for you.  Next to every good Doctor stands a good nurse.

My famous comment to the Dr. on call was always, "The patient wants to see you" and that usually will get the Dr. moving. 

I had my head bit off more then once but hey, I knew I was right and no one should have to suffer needlessly so on some things I can be very assertive.  rolleyes

I am triple crossing my fingers and toes and Bill, that is not easy to do.  smilewinkgrin

Popeye, great fun. I hope you do watch it again and I am glad you have a good computer that allows you to watch movies.  Mine wants to over heat when I am watching DVDs.

The Little Girl

A little girl was trying to raise $100 for her softball team. She prayed for two weeks but nothing happened. Then she decided to write a letter to the Lord requesting the $100.

When the postal authorities received the letter addressed to the Lord, USA, they decided to send it to the President of the United States. The President was so impressed, touched, and amused that he instructed his secretary to send the little girl a $5 bill.

The President thought this would appear to be a lot of money to a little girl. The little girl was delighted with the $5 and sat down to write a thank-you note to the Lord, which read:

Dear Lord, Thank you very much for sending me the money. However, I noticed that for some reason you had to send it through Washington, DC and as usual, those jerks deducted $95.

You are so right about colic and grandparents..........my first born had terrible colic and I was only 18 years old so I took him to the Doctors and told the Dr. I did not want him  blush .  OMG, how young and stupid was I.  But my wonderful Father would come to visit every month and he would walk the floors with John and I would get some rest.  So when Kayla was born and had colic both my hubby and I would walk with her.  Whenever we were at family gatherings etc we would hold her and walk with her.

For the frist 3 months of her life her Mom brought her over for lunch every week day so we bonded quickly with her and with her sister.  My daughter is a great Mom and so much better at Mothering then I was. 

I cannot believe Kayla  is grown up.  Your children  sound awesome and you have every right to be proud of them.  The one thing I did not do as much as I should have was praise my own children as they were growing up but I am letting them know as adults how proud I am of them and I always encourage and praise my grandaughters. The teens are hard years so I think helping them build and maintain self esteem is so important in helping them through the highs and lows of being a teen.

Steak ums...............OK, now I got it. I am rather fond of French Dip sandwiches. 

Well you have a great Sunday................I got up this morning and was convinced it was Monday.  I went in to wake my hubby to go to work and he said it was Sunday................it felt surreal as this has never happened to me before.  smhair

Hey Bill I'm glad you got a nap. I just got done taking a nap in my chair while watching the Shaggy Dog with Tim Allen in it. That is a funny movie too. When you get out of there you will have to go see the Movie Up by Disney. We just saw it at the out door and it was so funny and very touching too. A lot better than I was expecting it to be. My Gizmo is a bit nuts too. He got his name from the Gremlin named Gizmo because he looks like him, but sometimes he acts like someone fed him after midnight. Lol. I hope you have seen the movie other wise you won't get that. He was my son's dog until he bit my grand daughter and I talked my son into giving him to us. She was only 2 1/2 at the time and too ruff for  a 4pd 9oz little dog. He still loves her though and goes crazy when she comes to visit or we bring him out East to see her. Man I wish I was out East today. It is so cold out I am sitting here with an electric blanket on me and Gizmo is standing in front of the heater. This is ridiculous for June to be in the 40's & 50's.

I bet every one will be glad to have you back home. It feels good to know that no one can replace you. I'm still hearing from my seniors that they are glad I am back. No one does things quite the same as you can. You are an inspiration to every one around you and to all of us here. It's good you have such a wonderful wife to stand by your side. That really is a big help as I know because I have been married almost 28 years now and don't know what I'd do with out the support of my husband. Take care and I'll talk to you later. Barb
