Hello my friends,
I slept almost 13 hours and still could use more. It is quite a bit harder to control the pain here. With Beaker it was easy! Anyhow, I probably won't be on here quite as much the next day or two. I am really in need of some catch up sleep. Thanks again and I will be back full bore shortly, we got some more cheering to do!

Hi Bill,
You should be taking it easy, sleeping a LOT to make up for your lack of sleep in the hospital, and taking care of yourself. Don't worry about supporting people here. You just support your own healing process, and we'll take care of things here.

Glad to hear your getting some much needed sleep Bill. I bet your little Gizmo doesn't mind curling up with you. I know my little Gizmo loves to do that. Take it easy and get as much sleep as possible. We'll be here when you need us. Barb

Here it is Thursday and I am wondering how you are?  I am hoping you are getting the much needed rest you were hoping for.  :)

Just a note to let you know I will be offline for a bit starting tonight due to a home project we are working on. My computer will need to be disconnected .

I will be thinking of you and of all the great members here so keep on healing and I will be back.

Howdy everyone -
Well things are a bit better today after a lot of rest and some food finally. I didn't think that TPN was doing much, but once I was on my own I found out different. I was having a hard time getting anything down that didn't hurt. Even soup and cottage cheese hurt. I had quite an adjustment to make getting away from Beaker too. No more instant pain be gone. It sure does take pills a while longer to work. I managed to go to 2 of the softball teams games last night. They were really surprised I made it and was calling pitches for them also. Lots of smiles all around. I sure did miss those ladies. Unfortunately I over did it a bit on the walking and my legs are very sore today. I never imagined my legs would be so weak from this. Even with the walking and such at the hospital it wasn't enough to keep the strength up. I'm glad I have a belt with extra holes. My jeans don't fit anymore and fall right off.
Enough about me, how's everyone else doing? I was having some serious withdrawls not logging on, but I needed the sleep. I'm gonna have to do some serious reading and get caught up. I see Bianca hasn't been back yet. Hopefully all is well with her.

Hi Bill, good to see you on again. We figured you were sleeping. You gotta be careful about over doing it. You have been through a great deal and need time to heal up properly. What is TPN? We are mourning the loss of our full size van with lift for my hubby. Now we will have to get around in just our little two door Saturn. At least the van made it home to the drive way. We are in for a fun weekend with our furry grandson Kayu. Gizmo hates him and they have piss wars so the living room is adorned in plastic. They already started the wars out in the yard. Lol. I hope they keep it outside. We couldn't say no after all my daughter and her boyfriend have done for us. They have a wedding and are taking our Saturn down to Illinois so he can fix the broken trunk latch. Yahoo! Gizmo is riding around on the foot rest of my husbands electric wheel chair. It's really funny looking. I'm havning a terrible time tonight with the feeling something is stuck in my throat. I ate an energy bar on the way to the store with nothing to drink and can't seem to get rid of the feeling even with lots of water and hot tea. It probably doesn't help that I ate a candy bar today when I got stressed out from my boss at work. I have decided to listen to my doc and get the hand surgery as I am sick of dealing with this, but my boss was having a fit about all my recent doctor appointments. She'd have a fit if I took 10 days off. I am going to talk to HR and see what can be done. Depending on when they can do it I may be able to just take a few days and the weekend off and return with restrictions for my left hand. I can do my job or most of it with my right hand. Well I am off to bed. I'll have to put the ear plugs in to night as my dear Kayu will pace all night up and down the hall waiting for my daughter and her boyfriend to come back. He's a big 90 pound baby. I'll check in to see how your doing tomorrow. Take care and snuggle up with your Gizmo and sleep some more. Barb

TPN is the nasty smelling sticky stuff they were feeding me through the PICC line. It was the only reason I couldn't go outside too. It seems it is very light sensitive. Oh well. I got a little frisky with my eating tonight and am paying for it. Tried some spaghetti and it tasted way to good and forgot to chew chew chew. So it ended up stuck. At least I am a pro at getting it unstuck, guess that's not something to be proud of huh. Things are a little sore tonight, but it'll be better tomorrow.
What happened to the van? I am glad to hear you have decided to do something about your hands. That has got to be horrible. My Giz won't let me alone for a minute. He is bordering on psychotic. He got outside and decided to wander in the weeds. He is a medium hair and now has all kinds of weed pods in his fur. Gives me something to do I guess. He doesn't mind me pulling his fur out in little clumps, but it's the only way to get them out. Good luck with the 90 pound baby. We have one of those too. She is a Lab mixed with Aussie and Chow Chow I think. Beautiful dog, but has the stamina of a freight train. She thinks she is a lap dog.....all 90 to 100 lbs of her. Her name is Brittany. Then we add in thee Beagle whose name is Buddy. He is a 13 inch beagle who decided to eat her share of food also and wanted to look like the foot stool on beauty and the beast. We have since slimmed him down some, but he has a ways to go. Aren't animals funny creatures? I just noticed I am rambling away again,,,,,so sorry, I seem to be having withdrawls from here. ''
This goofy keyboard is taking some getting use to after using the PDA and a small laptop for 3 weeks. Someday I will once again stand tall with some of the proficient typers again. I did manage to win a decent laptop for my daughter that only needs a wireless pcmpcia card to be internet ready. She is very approves of her old man's gift to her.I hope so anyhow.
Oh how the dark demon drugs have gotten there hold on my life today...But only for a short while til the healing has begun. The drugs they have me on to get by until the next appointment will be painfully slower at first But things will return to normal soon. I see that coming in the near future.



Anyhow,,,this thing likes to get me to say completely off the wall stuff, I am aware I don't see things so clearly on too much opiod days. I made an arguement about needing the patch plus oxycodone, I uinder stand the amount of morphinr eI tookl was a lot and will need some help to get down from. I just am not sure the fentanyl patches are they way tu do it They want me to try them for 2 weeks and then restructure it again the 23rd, Sorry for this horriffick mess. I take an evening dose and everything turns to blobs. I hate it. Sorry to babble here.

Glad to see you back on the forum. I'm sure those pain drugs do mess with your mind! I think you're writing very well under the influence! Good job!

I know what you mean about pasta and chewing. I actually couldn't handle it as early as other foods. Since it is usually not cooked to a mush, I could never get it chewed enough to go down properly. I had a bad bout with noodles getting stuck in my wrap, and causing some acid to reflux. (Actually, it might have just been irritated, but it sure felt just like heartburn. I had to give up pasta for a while, but could enjoy crepe manicotti, which was delicious.

I hope that you have a good day today, and your pain subsides. Good luck with your eating!
Be sure to give in to your tiredness and take lots of naps. Your body needs them to continue healing!
I'm not able to get on as much these days, because of all my school work, and evening commitments (lots of retirements!).

We don't have a dog now. We've had golden retrievers, then a terrier mix that we took when my mom died. I've got really bad allergies, and my allergist doesn't want me to have any pets. I don't need anything else triggering my asthma. My son and his wife have two labs--a yellow and a black. We doggysat for them last weekend. They keep us hopping--the black is only 2, so he's still pretty frisky. We took them some rawhide bones, which kept them busy!

Denise, I have to agree with you about pasta. It is hard to chew it right if it is cooked right. I will just have to wait a bit for that. I feel today will be a yogurt and maybe scrambled eggs day. I am not feeling to adventurous after yesterday.
Anyhow, once again I want to apologize for my incoherent babbling last night.

Yikes, Bill...You are going to be POOPED! After three weeks in the hospital, your strength is way down. If you can handle the stress on your tired body, it'll be good for you, though.

You don't have to be sorry about your rambling. We're just happy to have you back.
Hope you weather the baseball diamond. You'll be ready for beddy tonight!

Hi everyone, I've been o on the road for a few days, I'm so happy to be home. Bill, I was concerned about your pain control after the hospital..hows the itching?

I do remember pasta was a recommended food choice after surgery and I had so much trouble with it. I could have chewed it to smithereens and it still got stuck! As odd as this sounds, I started eating Ritz crackers! seriously! I chewed the heck out of them, but they went down and stayed down...I ate tons of them for 8 weeks or so, it seemed it was the only thing I could eat. So while everyone else was talking about rice, noodles, pastas of all sorts, mashed potatoes...not for me, all I could deal with was Ritz crackers !!!

Denise, Bill, you continue to watch over me and I appreciate it!! Thank you!

I'm watching the hockey game, so I've got to get back to that...GO WINGS!!!!

Well I made it through the 6 1/2 hours at the ball diamonds. I was pretty tired, but it was worth it. It was weird having all the people come up to me and welcome me back. I didn't realize so many people knew I was gone. Parents from other teams from different ages also.
We won both games. 6-5 in extra innings against a 2nd year 14u team and 12-2 in 5 innings. My daughter pitched the 2nd game and almost had a 1 hit shut, but we had 2 errors. Both girls were extremely angry with themselves and my daughter had to calm them down. One is our other pitcher and she knows how important a shutout is. We had a 3 run homerun in each game. One by each catcher. We play again today at 12:30pm. It felt really good to be back coaching those great young ladies again.
Janice, Now that I am off the morphine the itching stopped. YES! They have me on a fentanyl 72 hour patch and oxycodone hcl 5 mg. One of my surgeons students is an anesthesiologist and she was worried about what they were going to do for pain when I left. They actually switched me early in the afternoon the day I left. I was a little hesitant to leave because I was worried about that too. She said they will adjust it when I go back in 2 weeks. I hadn't realized how much morphine I had taken until I watched her add it up. Wow, I had a lot.
I did have one more itching fit about an hour before I left there, but nothing since. So it must be morphine only. One of the nurses told me if I am ever admitted again to tell them I am allergic to morphine so they will give me something else instead.
I also tried some crackers yesterday. I was surprised they went down so well. I finally gave up on the pasta for a while. I also tried baked potato and it goes pretty well with lots of butter. We got the car fixed already. It was $1220.53 for a bumper cover, a bumper block, and paint. We were lucky the car that hit her had a low front end and just went under that back of her car. It didn't get any sheet metal.

Hey, Bill. Congrats on the softball game! I'll bet people were glad to see you back. We were all very worried about you! You sound like you're doing just great. Being home is the best medicine, and a trip to the softball diamond is very healing for a coach like you! Just getting back into your life is very healing.

Hi Bill, don't worry about rambling and babbling it was quite entertaining. You made me laugh when you talked about your Gizmo. Mine gets that way too. They are funny creatures. Yesterday he was so phyco when I came home for lunch that he tore a hole in my nylons scratching at me to pick him up. I love hearing about peoples pets too. They are such a huge part of our lives. I am allergic to cats and certain dogs like Kayu if I am in an enclosed space like a car with him my allergies are so bad I lose my voice. I don't know what we are going to do with him next year when we go down to North Carolina for the Wedding, because we watch him for Heidi and she watches our dogs for us, but with all of us going I don't know what we'll do. Oh well that's next March. Kayu is being pretty good. I ended up bringing him home last night from the graduation party at the park because my husband got sick of sitting on the path with him. Dogs are not allowed in the park except on the walking path. Every one went nuts over Kayu because he is so pretty. I brought my Gizmo back with me since he growled at my nephew when we tried to put him in the bathroom. He hates that so I thought he'd be happier in the car which he was. I took him out for a while and every one was tucking him inside their coats to keep him warm. The park is right by the lake and much cooler over there. I hated to leave the party since the music was so good but had to go into my night job. Glad to see your are doing so much better Bill. Just be careful not to over do it. It is surprizing how many people miss you though when your gone for a while. I hope you win your games today too.

Denise, I have had on going pain in my hands since my accident in 2007 and I was told the only way to take care of it is to have surgery on both hands. I am only doing one at a time though. I talked to the HR person and she said they can do that with me taking a few days vacation for the surgery and then come back with restrictions if they can accomadate me which I know won't be a problem. I got a talking too on Friday from my boss. She asked me if any thing was wrong that was affecting my performance. I did tell her that I have been having trouble sleeping since the doc lowered my one med. I also told her it was frustrating when I have to leave for appointments when I have stuff to do but that can't be helped until some of my health problems are solved. I didn't mention the surgery because she's such a B about that, but I left her a note saying we need to talk next week before my appointment and I am going to tell her I am having the surgery if the doctor will agree to my terms. She shouldn't have a problem with me coming back. I am going to tell her I have been fretting about telling her this because I was afraid of her reaction but I can't stand the pain any more and need it taken care of. Well I better go take a nap so I can enjoy the nice weather this afternoon. Summer has finally arrived in the upper midwest. Yahoo! Barb

Sounds like you have the hand/surgery under control. As long as HR is fine with it, who cares what your boss things. She's obviously an unhappy, unconscious person, who won't be happy no matter what you do! You can emphasize the fact that once your hand is better, it will help you do your job better!

Enjoy the beautiful weather! My allergies are hanging on, but I'm finding I can spend some time outside in the afternoon (the pollen is lower then) without many problems. My asthma is MUCH better--even with the allergies. Not having the underlying inflammation that was caused by the GERD is making a big difference!

Well unfortunately we are rain delayed today. We had over an inch of rain last night and we are postponed until 3pm now. It is supposed to be dry and partly sunny the rest of today and tomorrow I think, so we should get the rest in.
Denise, Have you gotten all the end of school stuff finished yet? I never thought of how much work teachers have after things are done for the students until I talked with one of our team parents who is a 5th grade teacher. Wow.... it seems to never end for you.
Barb, I hate bosses who act the way yours does. I had to deal with that once myself. Not a good time. Since HR is alright with it you should be good to go. Even if she doesn't like it. I know a few people who have had the carpal tunnel surgery and are doing great now. All of them wish they would have done it sooner. Michelle is starting to get it in her hands from using scrapers at work all the time. She mixes and cures meat for Oscar Mayer and it's taking it's toll on her. She loves the job though. I've tried to get her to switch departments and she won't do it. Anyway, I hope you get the surgery soon and all will be good.
I think I am gonna hold off on the cheeseburger and fry thing again for awhile. Today my stomach is a little sorer than yesterday. It sure was good though!
Kitt- I hope the home project is going as planned.

Hey Bill, you should take a nap with Gizmo while you wait for things to dry up. Is the little guy still being phycotic today? Lol. Mine isn't growling and snaping at Kayu so much today. We just don't leave them alone together because Kayu isn't real careful and can step on Gizmo and hurt him as he has in the past. He doesn't mean too though. I'll take Gizmo with me when I go get wood today for some planters since Doug can no longer crawl around and garden and I can't bend over for more than like 30 seconds with out back pain. I can't believe it is actually warm enough now for things to grow. I also need to go get some flowers from Shopko for my planters. I bet it feels really good to spend all that time outside after being inside for so long. It's great you get to spend time with the girls like that. I love summer time. I can only stay out for so long too Denise as my allergies are worse this year. I had to take my inhaler after all the smoke last night. I tried to stay away from it but people were smoking every where in the shelter at the park. I'm glad your asthma is doing so much better since the surgery. That acid coming up can be so irritating to the lungs. Michelle really should think about changing jobs as this is not a fun thing to live with. My hand doctor pointed out to me that this is no way for me to live if he can help with surgery because I am avoiding so many things I used to do. I will point that out to my boss too. She is very unhappy because she had planned on retiring this March and then found out because of medicare insurance she has to work 3 more years. Her hubby retired early because of a layoff and gets to ride around on his bike and do any thing he wants. I think that gets to her too. I know because sometimes it really ticks me off that I with all my health problems have to work 2 jobs while my husband stays home. Granted he is handicapped but he gets to go do fun stuff while I work. Oh well at least I still can work and have a job. So many of my family and friends have lost their jobs. I know I complain some but I am so grateful for all I have and that my health isn't worse. Thanks for all the info and advice and support you guys give me.  

You would be laughing if you could see me right now at the computer wtih my Gizmo on my tummy and arm. He's trying to go to sleep as I type. If you want to see a picture of Gizmo, Abby and Kayu you can go to dogster.com and type in one of their names along with Menasha and it will bring up their page. They each have one. I haven't done any thing with them in a long time as I forgot my password. I should just email them to ask them what to do about that. Well Gizmo and I better get going to restore to get that wood.  Barb

they won the games for you buddy!! Thats awesome.I am sure your proud of your daughter,the girls and Michelle. Wow she cures for Oscar Meyer.Believe it or not, the only hot dogs my kids eat are the OM beef ones. Nothing else. My hubby loves the bologna. I wish i could eat a hot dog now. Do you guys eat OM? Knowing your wife works there, or do you not eat them because your wife works there lol? Make sense? LOL

I also work there as a maintenance mechanic. We do eat quite a bit of it. Sometimes they have things in the meat market for a dollar a pound. I work in the bologna department. We produce about 2.6 to 3 million pounds a week.
We lost the 2 games today, we play again tomorrow. We are a young team and sometimes we struggle with the 2nd year teams. Wait until next year!
That goofy cat, Gizmo, all he wants to do is sit on me when I lay down. He doesn't realize my belly is sore and won't give up. I move him off and he pounces right back. Kinda like a yo-yo actually. Of course he weighs about 20 pounds too. He is a very long cat.
I picked up my guitar for the first time in almost a month today. Wow, my fingers have lost their calluses and don't quite do what I want them to yet. The notes aren't quite as clear as they used to be. Should be back to normal in a couple weeks though. Just have to practice again. Speaking of Giz... he is staring and ready to pounce right now. Well I am going to try to get some sleep.

That's too bad you lost the games today. Oh well maybe next time. Every time you talk about your Gizmo it makes me laugh because mine does the same stuff. I had a terrible time keeping him off my stomach. Thank goodness he only weighs 4.9 pounds but it still hurt like heck when he'd walk where my stitches were. I can't imagine a 20 pound one. We even call our little guy Giz too or Gizzy. My grand daughter likes to call him Gizzy mo mo. It's really cute the way she says it. I sure miss her and her little brother Keegan. 2 more months and we'll be out there to see them and the new little guy.

I play guitar too or did but maybe after surgery it won't hurt so much and i can play again. What kind of music do you play? Well have to go get ready for work. I hate this part time job so much, but I only have the 8 hours tonight and then won't be back for 3 weeks as I will be on vacation the next weekend I am supposed to work there. I'll be at a 5 days country music festival. I can't wait. talk to you all later. Barb

Terrific, your out and about, 6 1/2 hours on the ball field one day.  You are a Mighty Man.  Hint, my hubby wears suspenders to keep his pants up as he has lost weight but not enough to buy new jeans.  I laugh at him but they work and they are kind of cute. blush

Rambling, not to worry as I think we all ramble on the forum, it is good for the soul.  I am glad you are getting some crackers down and I giggle to think of how many Ritz crackers Janice ate. 

By the way we must remember to cheer on Janice on Friday as she has her procedure. 

Well I was in withdrawal without any computer access until today but the bedrooms now have new carpeting after the same old stuff for 25 years.  They will be back next Friday to install the rest of the upstairs carpeting but it will not interfere with my computer. smhair

Bill, glad to hear the car is all fixed up as I am sure that is a relief to get it taken care of.

You keep on healing and be sure to drink fluids if your out in the sun at those ballgames.

It sounds like Gizmo brings you much joy.  I do understand that.  We have a Doberman puppy who is being trained as a show dog.  He is a handfull but he loves me.  One thing about a pet,  they always love you unconditionally.

Glad to hear you going on vacation..............make sure you savor every minute of your time off.

Bea, Remember the jingle, I'd Love to be and Oscar Meyer Weiner!  I still sing that silly ditty from time to time............it makes me giggle and anything that makes me smile is good.

So you were on the road again..............did you see Willy Nelson anywhere?  LOL

Our granddaughter's grad party was yesterday and it was a perfect day, the big tent did not blow down so we were lucky.  Great turn out and the food, well I will just say pasta, yum.  No Ritz crackers although I did see a Dorito chip on someone's plate.

Now you know my thoughts and prayers are with you and your date is on my calander so know I am right here for you.

Hey Kitt, your my next door neighbor in Wisconsin. We both live in beautiful states. Yes my little Gizmo makes me laugh on a daily basis which is great. He helped be through the healing after my accident and my surgery. I love dogs and love hearing about other peoples pets too. I can just picture Bills brown and white cat Gizmo when he tells me about his antics. My little guy actually sleeps in a cat bed that he took over when my daughters cat lived here last summmer. Sophie liked the head rest of my hubbys power chair, avon box or clothe grocery bag better than her bed so my daugher let Gizmo keep it. I grew to love cats after having Sophie live here for 4 months. Right now I am surrounded by the dogs. My rat terrier is hiding under the bed in the computer room and Gizmo of course is on me and my grand dog Kayu is napping behind my chair. We have had fun watching him this weekend. He's been pretty good except for steeling my eggs yesterday and getting into my dogs bag of food this morning. He's such a beautiful dog. He's a mix of a malamute and german shepard. He looks like a light colored wolf. I bet your pup is a cute little thing. We have a beautiful female doberman in our neighbor hood. She is huge, but so mellow. My dogs bark at her and she just looks at them thank goodness. I'm glad all went well with your grand daughters graduation party. My neices Friday was a lot of fun. This after noon we our having my nephews at our house. I better get going and get every thing set up now that the rain has passed.

Is Jancie having surgery? I either missed it or forgot. I have short term memory problems from taking Zocor for 6 months and the Nexium I take affects it too. So please forgive me if I repeat my self. Take care every one and I'll talk to you all later. Barb

Small world, I am from LaCrosse, Wisconsin.  turn Yes they are both beautiful states.

This is our 3rd Doberman and the first time we took a puppy.  Our other 2 females were retired show dogs that we inherited from my daughter.  We had both girls for awhile, one was velcroed to my side smhair .  She just went where ever I did in the house exept the bathroom.........I had to say no to her being in the shower.......Oh my!

She was the protective one and would always get between me and anyone who came to the door.  Her name was Dee Dee. D'Oblique was her showname.

The other girl was Dee's granddaughter and she loved to try to beat the UPS man to the front door.  Her bark was much more fierce then her bite.  The UPS man of course did not know this and started to park at the end of the drive and sort of toss the package at the door.  I would laugh.  Her name was Morgan and we had to have her put to sleep in April.

So now we have this beautiful male, our first male.........King,  Show name is Road King.  His Father has  US and  Canadian championship titles and is owned by my daughter.  My daughter and granddaughters show dogs all over.

They show Dobermans and Boston Terriers. My daughter owns a dog boarding kennels and a dog grooming school so there are always lots of pets around.  She lives just 2 miles from us.

Yes pets are wonderful therapy for any disorder or disease you may have.  They let just be yourself no matter what and they are loyal.
