Question re Nissen, please .

For you that have had Nissen and it was successful, how long has it been and are you still doing well.

I am glad to say that I had the Nissen in 08 and so far so good.

I was waking up coughing all hours of the night and having to sit up for awhile before I could go back to sleep.  Therefore, very little sleep.  Finally it took its toll and my blood pressure shot up.

Since the opration my blood pressure has been good and no more waking up coughing and having to sit up at night.

I'm so glad to hear that your Nissen has been successful. I also had a cough related to GERD--mine was in the form of severe asthma. I had the Nissen in February of this year, and my asthma has improved markedly. I wish I had gone for the surgery sooner--my doctors wanted me to, since my asthma was out of control.

I am aware that there's always a possibility of needing a redo, but the improvement in my health is definitely worth that risk. If I come to need one, I'll gladly go get it. I don't want to live with the breathing problems I had before the surgery.

I'm in the middle of allergy season, and my asthma is really good. I had one bout just as the season started, but it's righted around. Last year my asthma was horrible constantly. Thank goodness that there is a procedure that can help.

Again, I'm glad that you're doing well. Rick on this site had a Nissen that lasted about 20 years! We don't hear about the people with wraps that last and last...just the problem ones. Hopefully ours will last.

Hi Denise, thanks for your email. I am so glad that you are doing well also. I am with you, I wish for a long lasting result. But would have no qualms about having the "same surgeon" do it again.

I think the big thing is to make sure you have a good bariatric surgeon who has performed lots of these. Mine was a loose wrap and so far so good. But no coughing
