esophagus cancer in young very rare?

Esophagus cancer in a 25 year old would be very rare? correct?

I think I stress myself out too much, as I do have gerd-esophagus problems, but worry its cancer or something bad.

Many people have told me, I need to calm down, and the chance of this cancer at 25, is almost unheard of.

Is this true?

For someone your age this would be very rare. People who develop this type of cancer have usually had GERD symptoms for years that have gone untreated for it. If your GERD syptoms are occuring more than 2 or 3 days a week, you should be seeking treatment for it so that it doesn't cause damage to your esophagus and later on in life lead to cancer. Have you been to a dr. and talked to him about your symptoms? Good luck!

PS I have been on prilosec for over 12 years for my GERD and am doing fine.

I've had GERD for 20 years now, wow that's a while. Anyhow, as long as you have it managed and checked the odds are very slim. Even if you have Barrett's it is very rsre to have it change to cancer. I have been dealing with barrett's for about 5 years now.

As Bill said, there are lots of people who have suffered from GERD for a lot longer than you have. Don't worry. It's understandable to be worried about your condition. Generally doctors don't help, as they are required to let you know all the gory details to protect themselves from future lawsuits.

It's very important that you follow the doctor's orders, since there is a potential for further damage without treatment. These problems are very common, and GI docs treat them all the time. You will be just fine. Relax and get busy with enjoying your life!
