EGD after Nissen

Hi all,
Just curious about whether or not you have had a follow up EGD after a Nissen Fundo? Not because you were having any problems that needed looking into, but just as a follow up only.
The first time I had this surgery they didn't, but I did have 1 after 60 days and 1 after 90 days because of disphasia. I have already had one this time at 3 weeks because of concern of an ulcer.

Hi there Bill! I had one 2 weeks after, but because I had swollen shut; couldn't swallow a thing and was completely dehydrated and starving!

Had a second one last spring to check the repair...so my answer is no, I didn't have one as a matter of course, I just wanted to say hi there!

I have heard that some doctors want a followup EGD after and some don't. I am just curious because I had to have them due to other issues and not just as a followup.
I am not sure if I would have to have one this time, but since I already had one at 3 weeks I am hoping not.

Hi Bill,
My GI doc doesn't believe in going in with an endoscope unless an individual is experiencing difficulty, because during the healing process it could harm the wrap, and he believes in leaving well enough alone.

I'm having a colonoscopy at the end of August, and asked if he'd do an endoscopy at that time. That's when he told me his philosophy. It makes sense to me.

You're not sleeping? Sorry. Hope you get lots of rest today!
Camping sounds like fun. We used to camp all the time, but haven't done any lately.

Hi Denise -
Nope couldn't sleep. I spoke too soon about the itching going away...It found me again. Your doctor's idea makes sense to me. If there isn't a problem leave it alone. It is supposed to thunder storm here the next couple days so we may wait until next week to go camping. I am going fishing though.

Awwwww...wish you could go camping! I hope people are listening to your progress...you're going right on with your life so soon after the fundoplication surgery--even with all your complications and long hospital stay! You're one tough nut! But bottom line, done right, the wrap heals nicely, and life goes on!

Hope you catch lots of fish! My husband and two boys love to fish. When we go to Martha's Vineyard, they'll be taking rods to fish from shore. This time of year they're catching bluefish and striped bass. Hope they get some...it'll be dinner! Generally, though, they're trout fishermen, and like to fish streams. They don't fly fish...just the old worm and hook! They trout seem to like that just fine.

Denise - The weather isn't cooperating much here. I see a break tomorrow though and am going to set the tents and hit the river bank. The channel cats are running with the rising water and I have plenty of bait.

The answer is correct in which Denise stated They dont do an EGD after nissan unless there is an issue. I wanted one and my surgeon was against it but said "if i didnt shut up soon he wud.lol" It is not recommended.We have had rain rain rain.But I dont mind.My brothers garden is " coming up Love".lol

One more week! Our play is tomorrow...we did dress rehearsal today. Captain Andy seemed to really enjoy performing for the parents who were there. I had one class who volunteered to come and watch...I needed an audience to try to get him accustomed to seeing people in front of him. He seemed in his glory--I'll let you know how it goes!

That is what I am hoping for. I am so tired of EGDs. I still have to have one in 6 months due to the Barretts, but if it is clear then I am good to go for a year. Unfortunately my GI says I am stuck with yearly ones since I developed Barretts.Maybe I could just add up the 10 or so I have had since September and I can be good for about 9 years or so. Yeah right! It doesn't hurt to dream. I haven't any idea why I dispise the EGDs so much after having the surgery twice they are a piece of cake.
