I don't recall being told to do much finger stretching in the first few weeks. I can't recall how long it was before they sent me for a few sessions with the hand PT, and they gave me a bunch of finger exercises that I still do occasionally now, especially because I had some trigger fingers that developed (but eventually resolved with a series of cortisone injections). I might have been told to wiggle my fingers, but my hand was not in a splint. The morning after the surgery I went to his office and he took off the dressing and gauze wrap and put on a clean piece of gauze and basically just taped it on. I was just told to keep it dry, but didn't have any restrictions on movement. It sounds like you had a very different procedure. If your hand is going to be in a splint for two weeks, I can understand them wanting you to move your fingers to keep circulation going. I'm surprised they leave the sutures in for 2 weeks. For me it was only a week. I think the second time 10 days because he was out of town. And then I had nothing on it.

Hope you get some rest tonight! And yes, I remember putting it on pillows felt so good! Can you feel any relief of the nerve pain in that hand? I know you feel more pain from the surgery than I think I did, but I just wondered if it was different pain.

Ok, I'm rambling on and taking up all this space and we don't even have to look for Bill today!

Kitt, thanks for pointing out the other thread to me.

You guys are all so supportive. My stomach felt so much better after it was all done. It's amazing how much nerves and worry can affect your stomach. I called today to check on a few things and the nurse told me that I can do every day things except lift more than a coffee cup with that hand. It's not easy to do much with it wrapped in cotton, gauze, a plaster splint and then an ace bandage to top it off. I'll be resting it good tonight as I sit and watch movies at the out door with my hubby. I had a long day today so am going to take a nap first before we go. I slept really good last night. 8 hours straight which is rare for me.

Bill I slept like a rock. That felt good for a change. I am off to take  anap now.

PAlady, I can't really tell a difference in pain. I avoided so many things to avoid pain that I won't know a difference until I can try doing some of them once all this stuff is off my hand. Barb

Hi all -
Well today has been a very very bad day. My computer crashed and took out a hard drive also. I am back to XP again. I will wait for Windows 7 before I use Vista again. I also found out I still cannot vomit. Yes I had a bout of the dry heaves again this evening. Went to practice and was feeling fairly well. My stomach started hurting for no reason about 3/4 through practice and we stopped to eat on the way home and managed to eat half a small cheeseburger before the mad dash to the bathroom. My stomach and throat are hurting quite badly now. To think I was going to work tonight too. Not now though. I actually think it was the sweet tea that set my stomach off. It seemed way to sweet to me.
Anyhow, enough about that. Barb,Glad to hear you got some decent sleep last night. I know that hasn't been the norm lately for you. I hope the weather is good and you enjoy the movie too.

PaLady, It hasn't been too hard to find me lately, but wait until this weekend! I am probably going to be scarce for a few days. . I hope things are improving for you also. 16.5 hours until I get the injections. It is bad when you start counting the hours for these things.

Bill did you take your medicine for nausea? Make sure you keep that with you as that can really irritate things as you know. I hope you are feeling better now. I never got a nap before the movie as Gizmo insisted on licking my fingers  that are sticking out of the splint. The movie was really good (Star Trek). Of course Gizmo slept the whole time since he hadn't napped earlier. I am conting the days until my second tail bone injection. When you know something works it's hard to wait for it to happen. The doc wanted to wait until my hand healed first before another injection.

Denise the movie helped to kind of take my mind off the pain and now the itching that set in today. It's driving me crazy because I can't get to it. I took my benedryl for my allergies so maybe that will help I hope. Barb

 

Hi all -
Well I had another sleepless night. Couldn't lay down and couldn't get comfortable in the recliner. I think I am going to take the tent out and pitch camp for a couple nights before we head to Indiana. Maybe the injections this afternoon will ease up the rib pain and I can get some rest in the woods. I am going to ask the doctor today about the issues I am having after yesterdays "episode". He also does the Nissen surgery, and was the one who referred me to Loyola. I ended up taking a couple Aciphex last night and a couple antacids too. I hope this is just a temporary after effect and not permanent. Hope everyone has a great Friday!

I am truly sorry about the itching as I do know all about that. Drives me crazy! Benadryll does help me somewhat. I think I am going to give up an sleeping today and maybe I will be so exhausted tonight I will just pass out. I would never be that lucky, I would just sleep for an hour and be wide awake again.
