Thank you Denise I couldnt remember what it was. I did have dry heaves with the nausea so thats why i was asking. you are a diamond in the rush

Hi Bea, it's not good for your wrap to have the dry heaves so make sure you take the medication to get rid of that problem. I hope your feeling better soon. Eating plain potatos and things like cream of wheat or rice cereal always soothe my stomach.

Denise, I didn't itch too much today and only had a little pain in my hand. My other hand and the phlebitis in my leg are hurting tonight. My boss kept getting after me to sit down and let the volunteers do all the work. I'm not used to doing that. I felt rather useless today. I had to keep asking people for help with little things like opening things and plugging things in. Oh well it won't be for long. Baby that tummmy of yours. Barb

Here is hoping the itchies bite the dust real soon.  Enough of this stuff.  I know if I start to scratch it is like an addiction and I have to force myself to stop.  ARGH !

Glad to hear the itching has been a bit better. My stomach is up and down. I think my wrap is a bit irritated. I'm finding that it doesn't like salads. Even though I try to chew them carefully, it seems to be bothered. So...no salads for a while.

I went to an ENT to take a look at my vocal chords. My voice has been hoarse for a long time. Although it had started getting better, I still figured for safety sake, I'd get it checked. He said it looked good--just inflammation--he thinks from years of GERD and allergies. Also, he expected to see some yeast fungus on them, but I told him that I took a course of 7 difulcan (much to the distress of my stomach--it's still not recovered) the end of June. He thought that was a wise decision.

I'm glad your boss is telling you to take it easy. I know what you mean, though. It's really hard to depend on someone else. Oh well...it won't be long until you're right back at it!

Hi Kitt, it's been more about pain the past few days than itching. I'm not sure why because my hand was pretty good. I understand why the right one is sore because it's doing all the work. Oh well at least my back is a little better. I hope you find relief from your back pain. Icy hot patches work well as does biofreeze and those heat wraps. Heat always seems to be a healer for me. I'm excited about spending extra time with my grand children. My grand daughter will be in school this year so it will be nice to have 2 whole weekends with her. I haven't heard from my daughter in law yet about the ultra sound they did today. She'll probably call tomorrow. Hope you have fun in Branson. We'll be right here waiting to hear all about it.

Denise, sorry about your stomach problems. It will probably just take some time to heal from the meds. I know my stomach is the same way. I did take it a little easier today at work. Barb

Thanks, Barb. Sorry that you're having more pain. Probably any movement can irritate it, even if you're not actually using it. Hope you enjoy your weekend!

Denise, I'll get through it. I have had worse. I just don't like the idea that I'm taking pain pills on a regular basis again. Hope fully it won't be for long. I hope we're both feeling better by the end of the weekend. I'll check in tomorrow. Well I'm off to take my one handed shower. yeah Have a good night. Barb

I hope your hand is feeling better today. I had a definite feeling of reflux today. Again, it's when my wrap is irritated. I don't know what's going on. I'm using my asthma as a way of monitoring things. So far so good.
I'm trying to be more careful with what I eat. It's hard, though.
Don't feel bad about taking the pain meds. It's what they're for. No sense in suffering when you don't need to.

Denise, I went scrapbooking today and my back and tail bone are really bad so I ended up taking a pain pill any way and a muscle relaxor. I forgot my cushion last night and the hard couch must have done a number on my tailbone. It hasn't hurt this bad since I had that shot in June. Oh well I get another shot this Wednesday. My leg hasn't got any worse so that is one plus. My stomach was very touchy the first year after my wrap. I could eat very little at a time other wise I had reflux and very uncomfortable feeling for hours. I hope yours feels better soon. You'll still have to be careful because of your stomach being so touchy. I have to really watch what I eat. The same as before my surgery because of the gastritis which causes gas and then pushes stuff up through my wrap. Well I'm off to work. Barb

I've not stopped over here for a couple of days, but did want to see how you were doing. It does sound overall like it's getting better, although I guess your hand needed a bit more than mine did. I still feel bad for setting you up for a quick relief from pain, but please do take those pain meds. For the short term, they will sure help you manage. Over on the chronic pain forum we all struggle with the need to take them for the long haul. I never in a million years thought I'd be taking this many medications, and it looks like I'll need most of them forever. But that's another topic.

At least you're back working. Think of yourself as Queen for a Day as you let others help you more. :-) You deserve a break!

Hi PAlady, that's ok I already realized a long time ago that I take longer to heal and have more pain. Even my boss's boss was having doubts and questioning me coming back that soon because after 9 years, 2 operations, a moped accident and 3 heart caths one with a stent she knows me well. She even had me reserve some of my vacation time just in case I needed more. I'm doing fine though. At my part time job that I worked this weekend one of the residents commented on how nice my cushion was with the tailbone part cut out. I told her it really helps since I broke my tail bone. She said "oh my gosh is there any part of you that isn't broke". I laughed and told her that was a good question. She always cracks me up. I appreciate people with a good sense of humor. I always say it's better to laugh about things than cry about them. Well I am off to take a nap. Barb

How nice you got a chance to scrapbook! Too bad about that tailbone--hope you get relief soon. Thanks for telling me about your surgery recovery and the problems you had the first year. I sometimes start feeling like I should be totally healed, and things should be back to normal. That's unrealistic, huh? I'm only 5 months post op! My stomach does do some strange things. You and I have an added wrinkle--our overly reactive stomachs!

I hope you're feeling good these days. I know your super busy!

I didn't get much done with my one hand, but it was still fun. Sorry to burst your bubble Denise, but it's going to take time and like I said I still can't have a lot of things because of my touchy stomach. Be careful what you eat and you should be better in no time. Well I slept a lot today and only took a muscle relaxor for my back. Hope I can sleep tonight. I think I was catching up on all my lost sleep. Well I am off to bed now. Have a good night. Barb

Hi all, the stitches come out  tomorrow. I'm so excited. Can't wait to shower with out the stupid plastic glove that leaked. I want to swim too and perhaps the hot tub would help my back. I'll let you all know how it goes. Barb

You didn't burst my bubble...you reassured me, that the things I'm experiencing are normal. Actually, my stomach is feeling better. I think I'll stay away from entree salads for a while. Just a bit too much roughage going through that new wrap. The only time I get a hearburn sensation is when my stomach/wrap is really irritated. I really think it gets some swelling at those times. Just a guess. Glad it's feeling better.

I know how you feel about getting the stitches out! What a relief for you. Now you can start living a bit more normally. When I had my feet done, I had pins down through my toes, sticking out the ends. (pierced toes!) It was a happy day when the doc removed the pins!

Hope you get a good night's sleep and have a great day. We're making progress with our house. We're getting a big dumpster tomorrow, so Jack can clean out the barn and throw out the old rug, and various and sundry other things that won't be good to anyone. I've got to make a curtain for the garage door window. I'm not a big seamstress, but I've made some curtains before, so I should be okay. It has been a mountain of work getting things ready. We've decided to start showing the house on August 9th. Here's hoping that there's someone out there who's just waiting to buy our house!

Great news, Barb! Yes, it sure is a relief to be able to take a shower and even simply wash your hands without worrying to keep one of them dry! It will still be tender, but day by day, week by week, you'll notice imrovements!

Hi, Bill, PAlady, Kitt, Janice, Bea and every one else. What a great day it is!

I am so happy right now. I talked to my orthapedic surgeon about my feet and he took them and pressed on a spot that caused pain and he said it's tendonitis and I can fix that with a shot. He's going to do it when I go back for my hand check up in 4 weeks. I got really excited when he told me he could fix my feet and he told me to give him his copay and gave me a big hug. I told him I wish I would have come to see him sooner. He is an amazing doctor. You just tell him your symptoms and he knows exactly where to push to cause the pain and how to fix it. I had an orthapedic surgeon 4 months after my accident and he had told me that I didn't have carpal tunnel and that a shot wouldn't help my foot. He was about 20 years younger than my doc and full of you know what. He was very rude to me also. I feel very blessed to have been sent to such a good doctor that can acutally help instead of just pushing pills and saying they can't do any thing. Between him and the pain doctor he sent me too for my tailbone I should be like a new woman. Lol. tongue I'm a little tiny bit bummed that I can't swim yet because my incision split open when they took the stiches out. They put steri strips across it and an ace bandage. I can shower with the steri stips on. Woo hoo. He thinks in a week it should be healed and said this happens with the incision in the palm of the hand. I found out that they didn't use betadine on me and for the life of me I can't think of what it's called but the doc yesterday used it before my tailbone shot so I'm glad I showered last night and washed it good. Lol. Wouldn't want and itch there. I hope every one esle is doing better too. Have to run I am off to an out door concert my brother in laws country band is playing down by the river north of here. They're pretty good too. Barb

Awww Gizmo isn't going to be happy as he is sleeping the crook of my arm as I type and he will have to stay home. cry

Thanks Bea. the band last night was really good. It was a bit late for me so after work tonight I took a nap and now we are getting ready to go to the outdoor to watch G force with the guniea pigs and the proposal. Both sound good. Our friend might meet us there. My hand is pretty sore today and very weak. I was told that will take time though for it to heal and get the strength back. I hope your stomach problems are getting better. Barb

P.S. I remembered that the stuff I'm allergic too is called Chloraprep so will have to burn that into my memory and make sure all my doctors know about it.

Yep, your hand will be weak for awhile. It will take a few months to build up the strength. But the incision has to be well -healed first, and then they'll probably send you to a PT (make sure it's someone who specializes in hands!) and they really just show you a lot of exercises to do at home.

The incision will be tender - for quite some time. Girl what are you expecting!! LOL Even though my pain wasn't as bad as yours, the incision was definitely tender to the touch. That also takes a few months to decrease, but it will in time. It may never be 100%, though; even now if I hit the handle of a utensil at just the right spot I flinch, but it's no big deal. And it rarely happens.

I think you need to take it a little easier - it was surgery, afterall! :-)

Hi PAlady, I should know from experience that I naturaly take longer to heal. I usually have more pain than most people too for some reason. Oh well it will heal up in time. I just have to be patient. One of the seniors at work told me she used heat a lot on her hands and that helped. Heat always seems to be very healing for me. After my last surgery they had me sandwiched between 2 heating pads in the hospital and told me to continue that at home and it seemed to help. Once my incision closes I'll be able to use my parafin wax bath again and that always helps my hands. Any suggestions you have or advice is greatly appreciated.  I'm going to take my first glove free shower tonight. Yahoo! That's the only time the doc said I can take off the ace bandage that's holding the steri strips in place. They are already coming up on the edges. Did you have to wear an ace bandage after? I'm glad to be rid of that ridged splint that I had on. How's your mouth doing? I hope your getting some relief. Barb

I just wanted to stop by and say hi. Congratulations on getting your splint off! I'll bet that feels great. A shower without your glove is a real treat! I hope you're pain free soon. I'm sure your doctor warned you that it would take some time to heal.

We're making good progress on our house prep. It's a lot of work. We're having the open house next week. We're listing it tomorrow. A realtor came by today, and has some people she'd like to bring through. I guess we will let them show the house before we're done. It looks pretty good. My son has to come down and finish the landscaping next week. He's worked really hard on it.

My stomach feels better, but my wrap definitely doesn't like salad--even small ones. When my wrap gets irritated, then my GI tract is all messed up...I get all the gurgling and end up with diarrhea for a day or two. It's not really that big a problem, though. It's just my crazy reactive stomach, that's all. What I get is "dumping". It's not all the time...just every so often, and always related to wrap irritation.

My lungs have been great. Thank God I got the surgery. I just wish I'd gotten it years earlier, though, before the steroids caused so many health problems. My skin bruises unbelievably easily, and it is so thin it tears. Also, my bone density test shows a pretty big decline over the past two years due to the steroids. I'm taking liquid calcium now, so that should help. My doctor wants me to look at the research regarding treatment, and try to see what I'd be comfortable doing. My hips are normal, but my spine shows osteopenia--the step before osteoporosis.

Anyway...I'm tired, and need to get some rest.

Hi Denise, my doc told me that by the end of August when i go back to see him I will have a little pain just in my wrist area below the incision. I hope he's right but I think it will take longer than that as I know how my body works. I'm not taking pain meds for it any more since it's not like a constant pain. I just get pains when I turn my hand a certain way or sometimes when I pick things up. I just have to be careful about what I pick up. It feels better with out the splint pushing on my incision though. I have problems with diarrhea every so often too. Last week I ate way too many cherries and man did I feel awful with cramps and every thing. I always have to be careful about what I eat and how much. I'm glad your feeling better. It's too bad sometimes that we can't go back and do things sooner for a better out come. That's what convinced me to go ahead with the hand surgery and tailbone injections. Why put off something that will make life better is my new motto. Maybe the treatment that is IV once a year for the bone loss would help with out upsetting your stomach. You'll have to let me know how things go with the house. It sounds like all your hard work will pay off. Well I am off to enjoy my shower. Barb
