Klinger New Member..Feeling tired all the time

Hello All

 I am new to the posts..but no to the NISSEN surgery..

 I had two laparscopic surgeries to repair my hiatal hernia.. first in 1998 and 2nd one

 2003... they didnt work so I had the opened cut last March... spent 5 days in the hospital

with a tube up my nose down my throat.. painful...

I have been feeling ok up to recently... I get a lot of gas from this and can't burp.. my stomach is ugly.. I can't seem to firm it up.. someone told me they cut into the muscle tissue and that is the way it will be... recently I get that burning feeling in my stomach and now I have pains in my upper back (shoulder blades).. I always feel bloated.. I got sick last month and couldn't throw up.. that I do not like and was not informed of this before hand.

I feel so tired all the time..  Can anyone tell me what is going on and if experiencing the same symptoms as being tired, burning pain...

I'm sorry your miserable. I can't help you because I've hadn't had the Nissen, I'm going for the Esophyx procedure this fall. From what I've read from others the gas build up is natural for the Nissen. Constant frustrations and pain can wear on a person and cause tiredness. I hope you can find some relief.

The Nissen involves going in via your adominal wall and wrapping the top of your stomach around your esophagus like a hot dog bun. There is some troubles with it, but it was the gold standard for many years. Many people sing it's praises despite the troubles at time.

The esophyx procedure is new. It's only been in the USA for three years, so few doctors know how to do it. They go down your throat with a special endoscope with a "stapler" and pull down the top edge of your stomach. Then go around "stapling" it to your esophagus creating a stronger LES. There is less down time on the esophyx method and if a "staple" fails it can be fixed easier than a nissen. Also if a Esophyx totally doesn't work you can fall back on a nissen. THe only thing that hinders getting the procedure is the size of your HH.
