Hi Cheryl,
You're definitely going to fill up really fast the first few weeks. I used to go out to eat and nibble on my food to such a degree that my son thought I acted anorexic! You can only eat tiny amounts at a sitting, due to the swelling you're experiencing. Be careful not to talk/laugh while you're eating. It makes you take in more air, causing bloating. No straws, no carbonated beverages. Have you tried chewable Gas-X after meals. It helped me a lot in the beginning. You don't have to follow the dosage on the box (I was told), but can take it as needed. You might find it very helpful, if you haven't already tried it.
I can't think a girdle would help your stomach problem, but I'm no doctor. To me, putting pressure on would cause more pain. Who knows, though. You've got to understand that the incisions are just the entry point for the tubes they manipulated in the surgery, so they no doubt moved around a lot inside you.
Somebody once warned me that the fact that the surgery is laproscopic can be deceiving. While it doesn't take long to heal outside, your insides have taken a real beating with the surgery, and will take time to feel better. You need to be patient and give yourself time to heal. We feel so good so soon post-op, that we forget what our bodies have been through!
Hey...your recovery is just starting! I was also told that it takes months to fully heal. One of our friends here can correct me, but I heard that I think about
80% of the healing occurs in the first 6 months (not two weeks!), and the remainder of the healing takes about
a year.
Patience, my friend!
We're all here for you. There are no stupid questions, and I suggest that if you're not sure what your rushed doctor meant, you should insist that somebody get back to you and answer your questions. You waited 2 1/2 hours, and it's not your fault that the doc was behind schedule. They owe you an answer to every question you have!
Feel well, and heal! You're going to have a wonderful vacation!
Hang in there, Cheryl. We're here as your cheering squad!
(Too bad we don't have any hula dancers!)
Take care,
Denise
