Hi Mookiemoomoo,
Welcome to the Healing Well GERD forum! Glad you've joined us. You've come to the right place--there are lots of us here who've experienced the same types of symptoms. I had the Nissen Fundoplication surgery on February 27th, and am so glad I did. My reflux caused my lungs to be constantly inflamed, and created uncontrollable asthma. After the surgery, once my lungs had a chance to recover, they've been great!

I wish you lots of luck in getting all your tests behind you and finding an excellent and experienced surgeon to do the procedure.
If you stay around, and post any questions/thoughts, I'm sure you'll get lots of responses. We're all here to offer support and encouragement.

There is a very good chance that your asthma is made worse by your reflux. It's a common problem, and many asthmatics suffer from GERD. My asthma was HORRIBLE for the four years before my surgery. I was afraid to move forward with the surgery for many years, but finally, I decided I had to give it a try. I couldn't take the coughing, wheezing, and shortness of breath any longer. I was taking too many steroids to keep my lungs open, and they weren't working all that well.

The surgery has been a godsend for me, and my asthma is much, much improved. I still have a bit of asthma due to allergies, but it is very mild and I don't have it all the time, like I did before surgery. I wish I'd had the surgery years ago. Oh well...better late than never!

Love that name must be an interesting story behind it. I am not quite a week out but am very glad I had the surgery I might be having pains wiht the gas getting out of my body but it is nothing compared to what I was going through withthe GERD. I was possibly developing asthma because of the GERd they finally put me on inhalers. Have not had any of the problems I had priopr to surgery knock on wood they dont ever come back. It is a long road back but well worth the trip I believe. It is so much easier to tell others to get some rest than it is to follow that advice but I make myself do it bedause so far everything is going well. The surgeon was very pleased with the outcome of the surgery now it is my job to give my body time to heal itself

Mookie, hang in there! Dont get down on yourself. Asides from all my symptoms I also developed General Anxiaty Disorder, Panic Attacks, and Depression. I flet like I wanted to die at one point. It got me absolutly nothing! I created more peoblems than were necessary through this journy for myself and my family. Its hard to keep focus on the outcome and the fact that you will get better. And I know its hard to be positve when you feel like you're falling apart but just think of your child or childern. They need you there, though you dont feel good. The good thing is that you have a date to see the surgeon. Thats a huge step!

As far as the bloating, I'm a male, tall, medium build, and I looked like I was 6 months pregnant. I was verry bloated and the Surgeon said that my stomach and esophogus were extreamly inflamed. He said "it looked bad". That might be why you look and feel so bloated. When I woke up afetr surgery I was looking for my baby..lol!


It took me 11 years to get to where I'm at today. But now its all about recovery and pieceing my life back together, one day at a time.



Dont lose faith. Things will get better.
