Hi all-
Well I started to have another bad night last night. They added the Ativan every 8 hours regularly now and with that and the Percocet I managed to get things calmed down. I did have some great visitors yesterday evening. The catcher from out team and my daughter showed up. They brought me Whiteys mint chocolate chip ice cream. My favorite! They only stayed an hour or so,but what a wonderful hour. It wasn't long after that it kicked in again. I finally managed to fall asleep about 8 or 8:30 last night. I woke up at 3:30am. Most sleep I have gotten in in a week. I added i up with help from Michelle and we think I have had a total of just over 10 hours sleep since I was admitted Monday morning, not counting the nap time in surgery. The 7 hours or so last night was great.
Oh yeah, Mom came up last night too. She is taking care of her brother who had heat exhaustion a month or so ago and the EMTs filled out a report and the doctors and social workers wouldn't let him go back to the house of someone he was living with. It was 104 heat index that day and they wouldn't let him use his airconditioner in his room. The EMTs said it was hotter in the room than outside. They are looking into Elderly abuse right now. Mom asked if he could come live with her. The social worker had to go to Mom's and do an inspection before they would let him move in with her. Mom is 73 and he is 75. The social worker gave her a huge go ahead and he has been ith her about 2 weeks now. She tried to get him to move in with her 3 years ag and he didn't want to "be a burden". There are only the 2 brothers and 2 sisters left out of 13 and she doesn't want to see him gone prematurely because someone wants to save a few dollars on electricity. He was paying the bills for these people anyway. But it was they're house and he figured they had the say so. They used him to keep there bills paid and then about kill him to save a few bucks that he pays. Some people piss me off.
Anyway, My niece also stopped by. She works at this hospital and did work this wing. She now is with the pharmacy. When she heard about what happened the other night when my sister was here she flipped. She came up yesterday and asked the name of the nurses and disappeared. Cam back about 30 minutes later and said it is all taken care of. She talked with the charge nurse and had the three nurses that were horrible banned from my room. She was really angry. She told me she is so embarrassed because the way they treated her uncle at the hospital she works at. After that things have really changed around here. I was supposed to have the same nurse again that let things get out of control, but had the charge nurse instead. She told me not to worry about the survery, because Monday morning she is going to talk with the nurse supervisor herself and let her know what happened. I didn't know until her and my sister showed up yesterday that the nurse who let everything get crazy told my sister that the reason I am having such pain is because i am holding my urine. She said my out put is way to low and I have to be holding it and that is why I am hurting because my bladder is full. Let's see, I as going at least every hour, had to strain to get the last of it out because i felt like I still had to go, but it wouldn't come out. Then it wiuld trickle a little bit. I was sweating so much I had to change gowns 3 times and they changed my linen 4 times that evening ad night. I only drank about a total of 2 of the small plastic juice cups all day and night. Michelle asked if I should have the IV hooked back up since I wasn't drinking much and sweating so badly with low urine out put. The nurse said no. That night they put me NPO at 8:30pm for surgery at 8:30am and I only urinated once all night and that was very little. She asked again about reconnecting the IV and was told no, they will do that in surgery. When the OR nurse came to get me she was wondering why I didn't have an IV hooked up. I told her the story and she wasn't happy either. She had a hard time flushing the IV in my hand and was worried it wouldn't work. It did fail in surgery and they had to start a new one.
Anyhow, looks like I am getting out of here today. I still have a lot of pain, though it is a different pain. I have only had 1 IV med in the last 24 hours, but it was about an hour ago. I went to long without anything and the pills alone didn't do it. My nurse came back and said she was giving me the IV med and didn't care what the doctor said I had to have it or things were going to get worse. She said they should have had it set up to give me the oral pain meds on a set schedule, not as I called for them because if I slept too long this is what would happen. She said I could always have refused them if I didn't want them. Oh well, hopefully this saga will be over in a few hours.

It's great to hear you're going home. Hopefully it happens as planned. Even though it may be harder to control your pain with oral meds, you won't be hostage to the schedule of the nursing staff. You'll be able to take care of yourself better than they can. I do hope your kidney issues clear very soon, and you can get back to normal.

I'm so sorry I haven't been around the GERD forum for a few days. Wow - you sure have had a rough time of it! But I noticed that the rest of the herd were preparing themselves (I also notice we seem to have a few bulls in the group! LOL) for battle if needed.

I hope you're home or close to it. Just a note about pain - it's much better to keep on top of it by taking medication on a regular schedule. If you let it get up to say a "9", then you've got that much more pain to try to manage, rather than keeping the pain at lower levels with regular medication. So I wonder if that's a bit of the problem. If you're not home already, I think having them give you pain meds on a regular schedule might help you get off the IV sooner.

At any rate, I sure hope the worst is behind you! And remember, we're still hanging around in the hall if you need us!!

Okay, no words from Bill for over 24 hours.......Bill I hope you are home sleeping soundly to make up for all the missed sleep from your hospitalization.  My prayers are with you.

Anyways, its nice to see that you are feeling better now. I cant even imagine the type of pain you must of been in. I'm also happy to see that your insurance came through for you on the doctor coverage as well. But hey, your still very young so if you get it all out of the way, your ealth issues, now you can live happy and healthy the reast of your life

Both my parents have diabetis so I'm nervous about it to.
