Hi Bill glad you are both doing better. I won't camp in a tent any more. too old for that and with my bad back not a good idea. Too cold for that too. I have an electric space heater and blanket that will go with us plus plenty to do in the van if it is too cold out side. Can't wait to spend some time with my daughter and boyfriend also.

Hi Kitt, glad you are getting the help you need. That's always important. Remember to spend time with your pup too that always cheers a person up too. Hope all goes well with your skin doc too. I'll be thinking of you and praying for you. Talk to you later. I am off to work. Barb

Hey Bill, Barb, and Everyone,

I am highjacking Bill's thread for just a bit.

I went to see my Dermatologist today and had 71 (yes 71) actinic keratosis removed using liquid nitrogen.  this leaves a blister on each lesion as you would normally get from a burn.

Actinic keratosis can be the first step leading to squamous cell carcinoma and is therefore known as a “precancer.” I had 5 cancerous  lesions removed in June of 2008.  We also did a biopsy of 2 suspicious areas today so I am a bit worn out and feel like one blister on top of another.

I will try to catch up with all tomorrow...............many hugs and thinking of you to each of you.

Hi everyone, trying to catch up here..Bill, sleep, I'm on Ambien CR right now, it kind of works, but when I take 1/2 of a Unisom with it, I get better sleep. I'm with you with the shoulder pain; I shoulder surgery two weeks ago; my laundry list of complaints continues to grow, but at least I'm on this side of the shoulder stuff..knock on formica. I sure hpe the lyrica works for you, have you tried (LOL, what haven't you tried!!) Lidoderm patches? They help me bridge the pain meds and since they're not systemic..no drugs in the system. I'm sorry to hear about Michele's migraines, I've battled them for years..no fun!

Kitt, ouch! ouch! OUCH!!!! I just can't think of anything other than OUCH!!!! I hope these heal soon and that you have a good path report.

Kitt, I'm with Janice, Ouch. You poor thing I will keep you in my prayers. I hope your feeling better real soon. Hope your pup is making you feel a little better any way. My little Gizmo always makes me feel better no matter what. 

Janice another surgery, wow you've caught up too me. Gosh I hope this is your last one for a long time or forever for that mattter. I would be happy to never see another surgeon or hospital for that matter. Yuck! I hope your feeling better real soon.

Bill hope you are feeling better tonight. Well it's back to packing the van for camping. There seems to be so much you have to bring for some reason. Oh well it will be worth it to get away. I went to day and shelled $112 bucks for a battery for my nebulizer. The insurance considers it a luxery so they won't pay for that. Oh well my hubby and I feel better having one so it will work any where. Well better get back at it. Barb

Gotta agree with Janice and Barb OUCH!!! Hope they heal up quickly. Also pray the biopsies come back good.

Janice- Good to hear from you. Knew you were recovering fro the shoulder surgery. Hope that is going well. The Lyrica is working very well so far, but having the dizzynes and blurred vision side effects. My doctor took me off last night and tonight because of this, nut wants to keep the current dosage for a while longer and see if the side effects subside. IT is a bit better tonight though.

Things are somewhat better tonight. The dizzyness is down a bit. Ribs aren't hurting yet either. Get that packing done early so you can relax.

Well the shoulder did start in again today, but not as bad as before. Not sure what is up with it. The really bad news is I started having pains in my left side again tonight. That all too familiar pain that goes to my teaticle and now has headed to my back. I am in for a LONG night I fear. I took 2 of the lorcets a half hour ago and nothing yet.
Michelle's CT came back normal, so they want to do an MRI. Her headache is back full force tonight also. I still think it's migraines they way she is also getting an upset stomach with them. My mother has migraines really bad and I have seen what she goes through. Not a good thing at all.

Well I am having troubles seeing the tv, so I am gonna get off of here.

Good Morning Everyone,

Bill, oh no, not the kidney problem rearing it's ugly head.......I will pray double time.  I am glad you are getting some relief from your Lyrica.  If your not getting pain relief please do consider asking for a switch in pain meds as your body may have become used to the Lorcet and a change up would help.

I am really glad to hear Michelle's CT scan was ok.  I hope the MRI will  be the diagnostic tool that will help her physician figure out what is going on so she can get relief.

Janice,  I am just so glad to hear you sounding better.  I used the Lidoderm patches for my low back pain for awhile and they do help but man are they cold when you apply them..........yelps !  I know looking at another surgery is not anything you are excited about but your lab results were so good I hope you can keep that in the front of your mind going into the next surgery. You know that I am here for you always and you have my prayers............((((((((((((((((Hugs)))))))))))))))

Barb, Camping, how fun and you are amazing. I would love to be a part of your lively family as you never let anything keep you down long.  I admire that in you and I try to model myself after your example.  You have a s'mores for me please.

As for me,  I am OK and my complaints are minor to what each of you battles daily.  One of the dressings came off a biopsy site in the middle of the night and I woke up with a bloody finger and blood on my good sheets..........my hubby redressed the site for me.

I have been doing my best not to break any of the blisters from the liquid nitrogen burns but I broke a large one this morning putting the frying pan away so now I am looking like an ad for Bandaids.  I am stuck on Bandaids cus Bandaids are stuck on me.

Hubby just left this morning for a 4 day weekend up north and I am going to try  very hard to stay in the moment. I will not worry about biopsy reports as there is nothing I can do about it. smhair

Howdy-
Well my worst fears were a reality last night. Couldn't take the pain anymore and went to the ER at about 10:30pm. We went to the other hospital this time, thank goodness we did. I did have another stone, 13mm this time. Spent 6 hours at the ER, then my PCP admitted me to the bigger hospital for pain control for 4 hours and then sent to the new urologist's surgical center. Had surgery at 12:45 pm today. Removed what was actually a cluster of old stone fragments and new ones. Some were imbedded in the duct and that is what was causing so much pain after the last one. My new urologist said the duct is "Tore up bad" from what the other urologist did. They didn't clean all the fragments out and put in the stent which pushed them into the duct. Now the scraped as man of them out of the duct wall as they could without destroying the duct. He thinks he will have to go back in and atleast look at it closer when he removes the stent and may have to scape some more and restent it. Since the other urologist didn't clean it out all the way the fragments that are embedded in the duct grabbed onto new stuff and caused a larger "stone". They couldn't figure out how it got through the duct to just outside my bladder being so larger. After the surgery the figured out it formed there not moved there. That is why I still was getting pains even last week. I just about didn't go to the hospital because the other urologist basically said the pain was all in my head because it couldn't still hurt 3 or 4 weeks after it was removed. Glad I switched urologists.
Now I am off work until at least the 19th. Sure was hoping to go to work Sunday night. If he releases me after taking the stent out.
Sure does hurt going to the bathroom smhair . Peeing razor blades is about right smhair .
Well I am still pretty wiped with all the dilaudid, morphine, tordol and being put out for surgery.

Bill, you know, I am not a litigious person, but boy, I'd be thinking about calling a lawyer. I am so sorry; I think everyone here will be angry to hear what they did to you. I just had a talk with Tom, we were fortunate, he had a great urologist when he had prostate cancer, he told me to let you know he's pulling for you...

I agree with Janice on the lawyer thing. I alos know how exhausting all the can be.

Howdy everyone-
Managed to finally get some sleep, but woke up at about 2 am hurting severely. Missed my pain med time by 2 hours. I think I have gotten on top of it now though. Hopefully I can handle the stent the whole week this time around. So far so good, but it is only day one.
Janice- Thanks for the suggestion. I have been thinking about that very thing and am going to ask my new urologist about it when I go back to him. He seemed pretty upset at what he found and was going to go over all my records from the first go around. Tell Tom Thank You. He definitely knows what this feels like going through the prostrate deal. It' great to see you posting again my friend. I was getting worried.

Anne-Also thanks for the idea and encouragement. I am still trying to find a local lawyer to see about doing something with the botched Nissen. Most of the lawyers around here are representing the hospitals. I am definitely ready to get 2009 out of here and get into 2010! Love back at you and I hope things are going well for you.

Joy- I am just about ready to call on the herd devil. Get that asthma under control. My wife is having some issues now with the weather changes and such. Everytime she starts to get some sinus issues it kicks in her asthma. Our PCP has started to have her use a nose spray to help with the post nasal drip and it is helping with the asthma too.

Kitt- /be careful with those blisters. We don't need you to get an infection my friend. I am not sure I could go through 71 of those at one time. That has got to be very painfull. I know it is necessary, but OUCH! You are much stronger than me. I'd whine my way into a second session I think devil

I actually think I feel better even after all the scraping they did than the first time. Guess that might be from having a much better urologist. He is quite funny too. I was laying on the table and he walks in and says" SO do we have the EXTRA large scopes out? Oh , You are still awake!" The nurses were having a good time teasing him and the anesthesiologist too. I was laughing my tail off. Then I was waking up. I hate it when they don't let you know they are putting you out. It's almost like a sucker punch. I guess I also woke up a little sooner than they thought I would. I tried to pull out the breathing tube also. They said I got it half way out before they could stop me. I am such a bad patient. It's funny I actually remember doing that.

I'm so relieved, comforted, feeling better about YOU, Bill! It sounds like you have a good doctor this time! Let's offer up prayers that he can take care of you. Oh, can I understand this road you've been on and hopefully, you're nearing the end!!!!
Have Michele try Neil-Med Sinus Rinse; my ENT's at National Jewish and at Univ of Mich swear by it; I've used it for years, and no more sinus infections. Actually, no more sinus surgeries either!! It works so much better than nose sprays because it gets up there and cuts through the goo and helps to clean it out and keep the tissues healthy and clean...seriously, look it up!
I actually feel well enough today to head out with Tom; we're going to do a color tour once the fog lifts...it's only 34 degrees here this morning!!!

Dear Bill,

I was up until almost 2:00 AM this morning as I am bummed over all these blisters and trying not to break any......so far I have broke 2.  I did not see your post re surgery until just now as I must have signed off before you posted re your surgery.

Now for the previous urologist, lets give him a big knock in the head until he sees stars and then tell him "it doesn't hurt". Do talk with an attorney as there are many good  Medical Malpractice Attorneys.  You have truly been through so much pain and loss of wages and work as well as your quality of life has been severely affected. It never hurts to talk through your situation with someone.

My hubby was like Janice's and lucky to have one of the best urologists in MN when he had his proatate cancer surgery a year ago August.  With my hubby's history  of Crohn's disease his ureter was very friable. When the Doctor had completed suturing his ureter in place it all fell apart so the Doctor had to perform a specail procedure to reconnect.  After surgery he was adamant about not letting anyone touch his work and he would come to the hospital himself if something came up and Toby needed to be seen re the surgery.

I am glad you have a new physician and he sounds like he is with the program so do try to stay ahead of the pain and know we are all here praying and cheering for you.

My hugs and best wishes to Michelle.  How I wish I could do more then just post to you here.  I am so sorry you had to go through this again my friend.

I am in the minor leagues here with my skin lesions compared to what you have had to endure.  And by the way,  I did whine through the procedure on Thursday and told them if they kept blasting at me with the Liquid nitrogen I was going to start to cry.  cry They just laughed and had their way with my lesions.  Actually it was OK to get them all done at once but driving home alone was hard.

Howdy-
My daughter got to pitch for the varsity team today. It was the last of the fall leagues for high school and she got a win. They won both games today and ended up 11-1-0 for the fall season. No more games until March now, just indoor practice. Going to be strange not being at the diamonds an the weekends.
Not sure if I can make it another 5 days with this stent in. I am at the point last time it was about unbearable. I haven't started to bleed yet, but it is hurting very badly and then pain meds aren't helping. Probably should call them, but I want to see if it will pass. Since it is Sunday I would have to go go back o the ER anyway and I am not wanting to do that just yet.

Bill, here's my way of thinking...for whatever it's worth. What is waiting until tomorrow going to do for you one way or the other? Let's say you wait until tomorrow morning...waiting until the Dr.'s office opens...what are they going to tell you? Probably go to the ER because they're booked with patients and they'll get in to see you there as soon as possible? In the meantime, you're in so much pain and the pain meds are working and you end up going there anyway.

I can tell you how I feel, and maybe this is part of your hesitation. (I haven't told this to anyone, not anyone! and here I am putting it out for the world to see...but only because it's you, Bill and the loving people here...) I have never been weak. I'm decisive, strong and try to be in control..maybe too much! In the last several years, I have had so many surgeries, hospitalizations and more procedures than I can count and I am filled with such anxiety at the thought of another one, that I'm seeing my Family Dr. on the 19th to talk to him about anxiety. The thought of another surgery, another pre-op, another...everything, and I'm reduced to tears. I can't stand what the idea of putting Tom through yet one more go-round and yet I'm going to get my next surgery date on Tuesday.

I have to do this..and, Bill, so do you. You are too important, you mean too much to so many people and as much as you hate to do this, and the people who love you don't want you to have to go through this, they, and we, just want you better.

Whoaaa, what a soapbox!, but you are all that I said (and I hope I didn't overstep anyone's line here, if so, I apologize..).

We love you and we love Janice and gosh darn it I would trade places with you both if I could to relieve you of your pain and anxiety.

Please do whatever you both need to do to get through this time in your lives...this time that is seriously going on for too long, I know.

I am praying for both of you and your spouses..it is so hard on them too.

Let us all tonight say a prayer together...in our homes...or wherever we are that this pain and suffering becomes peace and good health !

Janice and Anne, Thanks. It really mean the world to me. I did call the doctor last night. HE wanted to try an anti spasm med that helps numb the bladder too. Makes me pee orange though....They gave it to me the last time at the hospital and didn't say anything an=bout the bright orange color. Quite a shock to see that color the first time! Anyway, He also refilled the pain meds. It has helped some and at least it is bearable now as long as I don't bend over too often or lift my leg too high.
Janice I too have been dealing with the anxiety. I was put on meds for it at the hospital the last time, but my family doc didn't think it was necessary to stay on them. With this happening again I am not so sure. Once I talked with the nurses about the anxiety it sure made sense what I was feeling. It is a nasty little animal that gets in your head. I am glad you are going to talk with your doctor about it. SO sorry you are having to have more surgeries. Soon this will be all behind you my friend.

Anne- I didn;t get back on here until today, but thank you for the prayers and thoughts. They really do mean a lot to everyone. You love and kindness overflows in every post you write. Thank you again!

Good Morning All,

Bill and Janice,

Anxiety is a real disorder all of it's own and for the two of you it is a big deal.  I have lived with anxiety for 27 years and believe me if I did not see a Psychiatrist, my therapist and my medical Doctor I am sure I would be sitting on a porch somewhere in a rocking chair as without help I was unable to tolerate the anxiety.

It does feel to me like both of you are experiencing situational anxiety. "Situational anxiety is a disorder  in which the anxiety symptoms are clearly related to a particular situation. I know each of you has been through so much with the multiple surgeries and the health issues that is is only normal you should be feeling anxious about your health and how it is affecting your quality of life.

Bill, I would really like to see you talk with your physcian re having medication available for any episodes of anxiety that start to bring your down.  I am a believer in using what you need to at the time and when things are better you will not need the medication.

Janice, I know it took a lot of courage for you to talk about your anxiety but I am proud of you for opening up and sharing with us.  I am extremely pleased that you are talking with your family doctor this week.  I truly think it would be a good idea for you to be on a medication and there are so many good ones available for anxiety. 

Here are a few tips to try when you feel anxiety is getting the best of you:

Exercise. take a walk, play a game of basketball, or ride a bike. The point is to exercise because when you do, your body will release endorphins, which contribute to feeling good. I know with your surgeries both of you have some  limitations but any exercise is good.

Call a friend when feelings of anxiousness or fear arise. A friend is not a replacement for professional help when needed, but a friend can be there to listen when you are having a bad day. Sometimes letting off a little steam can help relive tension and anxiety.

Share a laugh. Nothing breaks the tension like laughing. If you walk around feeling miserable, you will be miserable, but if you laugh life seems better. So if you are down, watch a funny movie or TV show to laugh.

Do something that you find relaxing: a hot bath, a video game, a book, anything to make you forget for a few moments about your anxious feelings.

Remember to breath, nice and easy and believe that you are going to be OK.

Anne, You are so wise and yes prayer is a powerful tool when it comes to healing.............I did say a prayer for all.  Blessings,

Janice, dear lady...

I dittoed everything you said and well, I don't think either one of us need to apologize. We are among friends and we are here to vent and get support and offer support and just say what needs to be said. We love you, no apology necassary. I am glad that you are a strong willed person..it will no doubt serve you well, as you battle your health issues.

I have actually envied your strength.

Be well my friend.....Keep on the path that feels right to you and HE will meet you there.

Bill & Janice, If I had to go through even half of what you guys have gone through, I'd think I'd be screaming my head off every time a doctor came near me.
I'm prone to situational anxiety about certain medical procedures. I try to do things to distract me from my worries when they get too strong. Sometimes it helps.
I used to see a therapist when I was in my teens for anxiety. She helped me through many worries and gave me tools to help me lessen anxiety without medications.
I pray that you guys will find a solution to your problems.
