Hello all.I had nissen surgery 2 mths ago.Still think i compromised wrap by being too physical 14days out.Went back to original surgeon who upon telling him i can burp alot more now and have acid and food coming up tells me thats its ok to burp and take my anitdepressants(which ive never needed!)  and not anti acid pills(which a week before he said to take one now and then?No tests he can do but if im still not right come back and see him in 6months.
He is a very good surgeon but shall i start from scratch again and see another gi doc who has done over 500 fundos  as he sounds very good.I feel the original surgeon rushed me and the other surgeon doesnt sound like this at all
Not sure if I should wait or start the merry go round again.Any advice tar.

I don't understand why he said there isn't any tests he could do. He could order a PH study and that would show if there is still excess acid. He could also order a barium swallow that would show if there is damage to the wrap and if there is any refluxing. If it were me...I'd move on to someone who is willing to do the tests necessary to find out what is going on. I actually had to that very thing. I finally went to a teaching hospital because they local GI doctors couldn't figure out what was wrong with my Nissen for almost 3 years. It took them about 3 months to finally figure out it was done wrong and needed to be completely redone. This was after about 8 or 9 dilations, 3 barium swallow tests, a PH study, and another manometry.
Bottom line...If your current surgeon doesn't want to help fire him and find someone who is willing to get to the bottom of things.

Cheers Bill.I did get a baruim swallow but ordered by hospital not gi doc.Have posted before no reflux but test only while standing up so gi doc wasnt interested and was saying its all in my head!.Now have acid coming up after eating again and sore again just under centre of ribs but only when standing up mainly.Just feel my gi doc was all keen but when problems started dropped me like a hot potato.Yes I will pursue another gi doc and try to get some answers.Thanks again Bill and hope you are ok.

Good plan, I remember now about the barium swallow test. All the ones I have had done were done in several different positions. Good luck with the new doc.

Last night was one of those very bad nights. I finally got some relief and got to sleep about 5:30am. Then had to get up and 8am to get ready for softball games today. Really hping my insurance will approve the Lyrica so I can hopefully get rid of this nerve pain.

Thanks....Last night was even worse. I got to sleep at 4:30 and had to be up at 6am. Still up and the shoulder and ribs aren't letting up. Sure was hoping to go to work tonight, but I don't dare go in when I have to take the narcotic pain meds. If something happens even with a current prescription they can walk me out of the plant and make me take a 2 week "drug class" in order to get my job back. Our union doesn't even fight them over this. In the last 4 months we have had 2 mechanics go through this. pretty demeaning to have everyone know they try to label you a "recreational drug user" with a valid prescription and following it as per your doctors orders. I get paid good money, but some days I wonder if it is worth all the stress and headaches.
Do you have an appointment to see the other GI? Sure hope they can get you in and figure out what is going on soon. I know all about the frustrations of not getting an answer when you know something isn't right. I went almost 3 years trying to find out what was wrong with mine.
Do you have any teaching hospitals around? Sometimes they are the best places to find someone who specializes in these problems. That's where I ended up going to.

Rest up Bill that sure is frustrating but yeah not worth the risk aye. weeks sure would be a long time off work so i feel for ya friend.Hope you can get to work real soon :-) My gp is playing the slow game at the moment so Im hoping to make contact with another gp who I have seen before who is more switched on to get referal to gi doc.Just have to wait for mine to be off for the day(the things we do)to get apptment.Im waking up at around 4am every morn now.Dont seem as tired but constipated a bit at the present time.Just takin one day at a time.Take care Bill.....

Whenever I have real symptoms and a doctor tells me it's all in my head, I take it to mean they have no idea how to solve my problem and just don't want to be bothered with a tough case.

Sounds like your wrap is not tight enough to me. If taking acid suppressors reduces your symptoms then it's pretty clear the wrap is not working that great.

If you only had the surgery two months ago I think you should give it more time to stabilize. Waiting six months to evaluate the outcome of the surgery seems pretty reasonable. Your symptoms could change as your body forms scar tissue, etc. in response to the surgery. If the wrap is too loose I think the only fix is a redo operation, which unless your symtoms are severe isn't something I'd want to rush into.
